I have this, somewhat mad idea in my head but was wondering if it is possible at all?

Ok here goes,
I see tones of people that only have local usage on there cap left and obviously cant view International sites.
Is there a site out there that will " Get " these sites and give them to you on a local .co.za site?
Because that what i am thinking of making, is it even possible to do?
You know, like a window of an international site within a local .co.za site?
Or am i just mad:cool::D

I'm no expert in this but I doubt they look at the .co.za part but look at the IP address...

yeah websites ending with .co.za doesn't necessarily mean that that website is hosted locally, thats just the domain, you need to look a the IP address to determine if that range falls with the locall ip range.

I have several websites ending with .co.za but all are hosted internationally.

So then wont it work? Cant i just host selected or requested sites through my Ip adress if you know what i mean?

Basically what you want to do is cache international sites locally. Can't see why that wouldn't work.

Although your bandwidth usage could end up being quite high...

Ya:):)
Im sure the Site would pay for its self though, like you could register or advertising would make cash

It should work that way, you can just "allow" certain domain names, and add on as people request more domains.

Well with a host like Webafrica, for example, you are looking at R50 per GB (local access). This is what you need to look at, since you want to be able to access the site from a local-only account. From there, it's a simple matter to write a script to do what you want. But it'd only really be worthwhile in the end if you found a host that offered a better cost / gig local

What you want is a local proxy server.
+1

Its a good idea, but the cap costs will kill it unfortunately. You would effectively always be paying for 1x local megs and 1x intl megs for every meg surfed by the user. In other words, with 50 users, you'd already be paying the big bucks.:o

So i would n eed alot of capital to get it started . . .You dot think that it could pay for its self tho?

You will simply be transferring the costs, international bandwidth is expensive from SA, so sites hosted locally are way more expensive than their international counterparts, I have several .co.za domains 1 is hosted locally because my clients need to access it via local only...

What you are describing, I think is openbrowse from openweb? You have locally only account and have limited international access, check out their website www.openweb.co.za

Don't think you would be able to "make" something like that without some major capital, and it may not even be worthwhile... in terms of ROI
