Again, not all DBA's work for corporate companies and have their salaries benchmarked against them. There are great Junior DBA's that are wanting to take that next step.
So you take the next step by taking a salary cut? That seems a bit of a weird thing to do.

I appreciate that, I have to work within my clients perimeters, if I reach a point where I can't find someone in their range at least I can prove it to them and motivate a bump in the salary.
Shouldn't you also filter the salaries that you post? If you know the salary is not even at half the salary for someone competent, aren't you causing an issue where you're going to be seen as a crap recruiter by the people you're trying to recruit? This entire thing is a two-way street, good job postings are also required for your business, since if someone sees a post like this one, they're not going to look through the rest of yours.

Thank you for your response, I think there is a huge misconception that every company can offer a salary benchmarked against corporate organisations.

When I moved to Johannesburg in 2010, I had 3 years of experience and a degree. I had what you might call a spotty work history, with 3 jobs in 3 years.

Ten years ago - TEN YEARS AGO - I got R25000 per month from 3 different job offers. One of them was a tiny company, around 20 people or so. Their office was literally a converted house.

So, yes I think your client is taking chances and hoping that somebody takes them up on their bad salary offer.

You guys with such strong feelings regarding the salary obviously missed the golden days of Chantal's job specs. We also told her her job specs were ridiculous although they were (10 years xp, have all the certs, R20k!)

Then she got us kicked out of our own sub forum

Anyway, somewhere out there there might be a DBA desperate for work who'll gladly take this salary. The company may be bargaining on that but hey - that's how the free market works.

As much as I appreciate your passion, there are many candidates who will see this opportunity as, exactly that, an opportunity. You may not like this salary for yourself but someone looks at is at see's that not only the salary but the chance to have their exams paid for, is absolutely worth it because they are improving themselves and potentially their bank balance.

Where you where 10 year's ago someone is fighting to get to today, where my job post has or doesn't have a salary range, gets the same tantrum as each other, if you look at my previous posts here, I have actually gone back to a client and had salaries increased based on feedback.. This is not my first rodeo on MyBB. I know on this forum there is no possible way to "win", so you can dig and dig and dig but I know this, I am unbelievably good at what I do and highly respected by those that work with me and by my clients.

In the last month I placed 3 Network Engineers with a new client, who was looking for one staff member - I sent him a total of 4 candidates. All three of them now have a chance to grow their careers with a company that values their employees and invests in their education. Now that may no be important for the guy that has a qualification but for the guy that can't pay for one..... well that just changed the course his life was on.

I don’t know how long it’s going to take for the regular salary post complainers to realize that not every applicant is a Messi on a Barcelona payroll and that there are a lot of Mabenas playing for Polokwane City.

I have issues with people not posting salary specs and then expecting people to apply.

This post was made with a salary bracket and people got to choose to apply or not.

I see the same MyBBer here I had a "discussion" with having problems with the salary. Just goes to show.

Maybe our economy is a bit more seriously fukked right now, than 10 years ago?

I own a small IT company and we all struggle. You can only pay your staff based on what your client's are willing/capable to pay you.

I took a big salary cut, just so I do not have to fire anybody recently during the Corona debacle.

I started on R500 a month. But R500 a month was more than R0. Sadly there is a culture in South Africa

"I will rather sit on my gat doing nothing that not getting what I am entitled to".

My problem is the "I played for 3 years at Uni and know everything, better get R50k without any experience"

I don't have a formal education. 5 years ago I went to every architectural firm in my area to look for a job, they all turned me down and said why must they hire me if they can get a graduate. This year they phoned me to ask if I have work for them. I still have a long way to go before I can claim a successful business or career, but don't let a qualification fool you into thinking that you know what you are doing. A qualification is only a benefit when you combine it with experience, otherwise it is just a piece of paper with an entitlement stamped on it. Also don't let not having a qualification stop you from chasing your dreams.

After a discussion with my client, he has agreed to increase the salary range, candidates who have applied under the previous salary range will still be considered.

I expect to see some applications from this space after all this PT :p

Funny how even after applying, when you have the qualifications, they still tell you your application is unsuccessful:ROFL:

Was even willing to do it for their R18K-R25K

Oh well

All candidates that where declined either
- Had qualifications but no experience as a DBA
- Had limited or no experience in the IT sector at all

Salary will always be an issue wherever you go, I want to get into DBA but due to the fact that I dont have the qualification and experience makes things difficult for me to change. I applied and went for an interview for a job that pays R1000 more than what I am getting, if they call me to say I got the job I will take it because we are not given opportunities to grow into other positions I have been doing what I am doing for over 7 years now and still doing the same thing and the previous company I worked for I was there for 3 years. So an opportunity is not about money but about doing things that are different and challenging you, it's difficult to change careers in IT sometimes cause of experience than qualifications.
