Sigh Archer :D

I'm getting good results, gained 14kgs over a year. I seem to gain/lose easily

I've used it with great results, but you need to fast for around 16 hours minimum. Also, plan to train during your fast. I'm not going to go into full details on it, if you have questions about it you can PM me, but it's still important to get the correct calories/proteins/etc when you're off your fast!

Does it make a difference whether you train during your fast or only afterwards, I for one would think you'd feel very weak if you haven't eaten anything yet

I wouldn't recommend fasting other than for religious purposes (if that's your deal). It does a lot more damage than good from what I've seen, especially if your diet is already wonky (inflammation in arteries/heart disease etc)

Training during fasting would be like suicide. My muslim friends dont go at all during ramadaan.

Depends on the kind of fasting - I am doing IF - which is short term fasting - usually 16 - 20 hrs with a 4 - 8 hr eating window.

I don't see why this would be damaging.

I could understand a 7 days water fast or such event

I fast between breakfast and 10, then fast from 10 till about 12. Then again I fast till about 15, and again till 18. If I'm up a bit late I also fast from 18 till about 23. Then a long fast till around 6.

There was an interesting BBC Food documentary on it and it seemed to have many benefits.

I would faint if I had to eat that little in a day.

Yeah the way I am doing it is based on Leangains - on non workout days I eat around 1500 calories.
Workout days I eat around 2300 calories

(Note I am short and BMR is around 1300ish)

I workout a few hours AFTER my meal and my lifts havent dropped + I am still losing weight

This made me smile

But is the idea of fasting in ramadaan not to carry on with your 'normal' routine. There are lots of examples of top sports people who still fast with doing their job e.g. Hashim Amla.

+1, that's about all the fasting I can manage.

I've pretty much got into a routine of a small breakfast on weekdays and a big lunch. Then a protein meal at night if and only if I exercise. On weekends I try to keep to a single meal, especially if I'm doing nothing - which is basically like fasting.

^summarises all types of Intermittent Fasting, as well as when it's best to exercise and the type of exercise. Exercising while fasting (when done correctly) has many benefits (weight loss, loss of cravings, normalizing insulin/leptin levels, optimizing brain function and physical fitness...)

I've tried this many times. It works for me, and I'm a student, and my focus and concentration has never been better :) I also started to eat more brain foods (berries, seeds with omega oils, etc) during non-fasting days, which gives a great boost.

Not really. I have been training fasted for 7 months no problem, just take your calorie free BCAAs.

I have been doing 16/8 fast for 5 of those 7 months

Now I do a 5-2 (sometimes 4-3) fast with similar results. Why? I can be social again. It is possible to be social with a 16/8 fast but you would need to break your fast quite late if you want to party and keep your windows locked. I'm not saying I drink a lot but it's nice to on occasion, 5-2 fast is even more accommodating for having a social life, just plan your life out, and say no to going out for dinner when you are supposed to be fasting and be strict about it.

Apart from family lunches, I haven't eaten in the day for the last 2 years. I feel strong, never get sick, don't fall asleep after lunch time, never get hungry during the day and I get to eat a nice big dinner.

I won't go back to three meals a day again. My first meal of the day is usually around 7 or 8pm, just after gym usually.
