One of my mates has a Lenovo thinkpad t520 i5. The problem is that the laptops internal modem is not working. I have installed all the drivers, and in device manager it shows that all is well. but when I start the connection manager, I can see my sim details, but cannot get a provider.

He is using Windows 7, the drivers is updates as well.

Does anyone know what can help, as other modem software like MWConn and MDMA does not work.

try the windows route (paraphrased)...control panel > networking > new connection > dialup > *99# as the number and username and pass blank

The connection software our local cell companies ship is truly craptastic so its better to either use MDMA (great tool btw - mybb oke developed it) or use windows built in connection setup

NB our said craptastic local cell companies have a habit of combining the driver installation of the 3g dongle with the installation of their superb (lol) software so sometimes you're required to install it.

After recent experiences (10-20k down the drain) I'm very wary of installing any software that comes from a SA cell company...

I'll speak to one of our techies tomorrow, I'm almost certain he had the same issue with a Thinkpad.

He ordered a new 3G card, put it in - worked until it was rebooted, then dead. Replaced the motherboard, worked until a reboot, then nothing again

We have used the Lenovo updater software, it updated all the drivers and installed some software, but no luck with the modem. It is not a Huawei it is a qualcom gobi, which I think is made by siemens but I can be wrong.

We tried the create new connection, made the number *99# and all that, but when we try to connect the modem it just say remote computer not responding, so I do not know what is the issue with that.
