So international is down on all IS based accounts.

Just checked and Webafrica and Telkom is online...

So has IS switched ALL the accounts over to seacom bandwidth? So why has the prices stay the same when IS only uses or mostly uses seacom bandwidth.

I thought that a 1GB IS unshaped account would at least be via sat3. but obviously not. :wtf:

nothing wrong with my International, infact it is flying.....
my downloads are running at full speed currently sitting on 33GB used

i'm on Axxesss Uncapped Express+ and my downloads via news servers have been dog slow for about the past 2 hours or so. down to around 3KB/s :( (very similar performance to their not so great Uncapped Shaped account)

i just called their Tech Support to see what's up and the guy said that it's due to Seacom maintenance and it should be done by around 10pm tonight.

Just spoke to Axxess - IS (or somebody) is doing maint International will be up and down from 2pm to 10pm

You are using Afrihost? Hmm starnge maybe IS switched to backup sat3 bandwidth. Its just strange that IS is almost completely dependent on Seacom. But before Seacom its was Sat3/SAFE

I thought this was part of the SEACOM downtime they postponed to this weekend?

Yes. But we expected to at least have some internet. What happens if there is a cable break in future. It means we will be down fro days until it gets fixed.

Not sure about EU and US, but the east and middle east has has a number of breaks in the last two years. In an article I read on friday someone involved with repairs said there are 50 odd breaks a year. I think we just feel the effects a bit more due to the small number of cables to SA.

Do Americans and Europeans have the same situation with their providers? Cable breaks between each other?

playin wow on german server...me being the one with the most interruptions, be it this maintenance on a brandnew "internet revolution", or erratic latencies from the provider, or just having a problem with the hi tech copper from telkom

Internet in SA has not improved yet, even with Seacom, I personally (not being one who downloads gigs of data) have not seen any. I was hoping for EU like latencies, just to be disappointed. I can't even go uncapped, unshaped because it would still cost +R2k, and teh other alternative is to have uncapped unshaped at a lousy 512kb

Its still stone age Internet here.

Yes Afrihost uncapped, usage 35GB atm
