Any one else having a problem with international links right now.
even http://www.google.com/ times out.

it can't be my cap becuse this is my latest report from telkom:
you have currently uploaded 70.65Mbytes and downloaded 1.35Gbytes of your monthly 3.00Gbytes

This site is fine but most others return:

A gateway timeout occurred. The server is unreachable. Retry the request.

I have reset the router twice and don't feel like spending an hour on the phone to Telkom.

Me too.....definite problems on international....nothing works!

Telkom rules!

Just got off the line to telkom.

Apparently a line is down in New York, so no service is available to SA (not Telkoms problem - It's the damb Yanks again).

Funny that, I thought that the whole concept of the Internet was that it was fault tolerant and could reroute in the event of any one, or more, point of failure. Oh well I guess Telkom know best, after all that that is why I pay them so much money so that I don't have to worry about such things.

Thank goodness we have them to redefine the Internet and ADSL specs. This whole RFC concept and Public Domain story was beginning to look like anarchy. Now where did I put that acoustic coupler, I need to connect to my Archie server.

Thanks Telkom for monopolising the internet....one circuit is down and DSL dies.

Havent they heard of how to configure this stuff....maybe they should call Transtel for help.

Go figure.

Wish they'd get off their jacks and get a backup in place already. [V]

Actually, this is odd. I can ping my server, but not connect to port 80 on it... Hmmmm. Telskum lying again?

Woah ye I can ping www.google.com and forums.bit-tech.net but I can't browse them -->
Gateway Timeout
The following error occurred:
Code:
A gateway timeout occurred. The server is unreachable. Retry the request.

Maybe the link that is down is the link they send all their proxy'd traffic over??

God Bless & Kind Regards,

Richard :)

Of course. That damned transparent (transparent my arse!) proxy really irks me. It should go...

Hi guys

It does seem that the international http is down. I can still access other ports, but not 80. It seems to have been an hour now. Did anybody phone yet? I am simply too lazy!

caroper says he phoned up there ^^^. Don't have a land line or I would too.

RPM, did Telkom basically tell you to shove off in the meeting Tuesday?

Ciao

Just got off phone with them.
Didn't catch the whole conversation (its late!! im sleepy!) but what i did catch was that there was SAIX had a link down and when I asked about still being able to ping the sites, he said the transparent cache goes over a 51meg line that is down.

Oh and a bit off topic but anyone noticed www.google.co.za ? is it like a local mirror of google.com or what?

Thanks for the link Richard, at least we can do something whilst Telkom is down. We should maybe create a list of local mirrors.

p.s. International has been down since just after 11pm according to telkom, but I have been having intermitent problems with all 5 lines since about 2pm.

Cheers
Chris

A search at whois.co.za lists Google Inc. as the owner of the domain, so unless there's been a funky DNS compromise that site's legit. Didn't work a few months ago when I tried - probably the same day I first hit the cap ;-)

Ciao

I notice a funny thing - anyone else have this issue? When the bandwidth's down, I can't concentrate on anything else until it's back up - even if what I'm supposed to be doing needs no connectivity at all... as sign of an addict? ;-)

Hi Methree

Something like that. But in the reply it seems that they are open to discussions. I want to be certain it is not a one way street…we need to get some assurance that our views will count. Otherwise it is back to action.

That's interesting, I can hit http://groups.yahoo.com/ but google etc. are still down.

is Yahoo also being mirrored localy?

"Dishes out the whips" whos first flogging this dead horse? TELKOM passing the buck again Hmmmmmm ?

This forum is *really* fast tonight. Eh. Whatever line/connection I'm using doesn't seem to be affected.
