International ping?

Saw your update, wanted to give a pingplotter for a point of reference.
Lightspeed is both my FNO and ISP.

Sorry to butt in to your convo @cavedog, but I'm also on SADV Vox Fibre in Cape Town with high EU pings.
Would you say my issue also lies with SADV or Vox? Are you able to tell which cables are being used?
2 different EU servers below.
First IP it goes Cape Town -> JHB -> Cape Town -> EU, why is that necessary?
Second IP it goes Cape Town -> EU.

Your routing issues are with Vox. Not surprising at all as I found on Openserve in PTA that Vox and Cybersmart offers the worst latency to EU.

My suggestion would be to change ISPs.

Those are some good options with really good latency.

Vox and Cybersmart has some decent networks but their latency to EU is not as low as it should be. They might see it as acceptable but if you are on fibre in SA latency to EU West should be less than 150ms from CPT over WACS or SAT3 and less than 190ms to EU West over the east coast csbles and in Gauteng it should be less than 170ms to EU West via WACS and less than 195ms via the east coast cables.

Anything higher means the ISP is using longer routes and there are shorter routes available.

Rain 5G in Gauteng even gets less than 170ms to EU West over WACS and when the cables were broken less than 190ms to EU West over the east coast cables.
