International transfer

Yup, I'm a wise guy (you see what I did there?)

In or out of SA? Incoming I'd go with wise, outgoing Shyft has the best rates, but they only do SDA (i.e. not FIA).
I am sending money to UK, specifically holding deposit for the place I am staying. But once I am that side I need to transfer R200k within the first few months of being there.

Works fine. Was transferring Money too and from my Monzo account when I was between countries.

Just use Wise. Prod for Referral code :p

I’ve always just used to send money to UK via my bank.

Maybe I should look at other services - as I do it regularly.

Fees on top of fees on top of spreads -- banks in SA will lie to your face about it (no fee, no cost) when they just basically tell you the exchange rate is different to what it actually is.

From wise.com going the other way as an example. Wise isn't the best -- starling bank would save you R280, OFX a broker would cost R1680 MORE than transferwise, but directly with a bank could cost R11,000 more!

(Don't think wise can do zar into GBP?... You could try currency fair (PM for a referral)-- bit more complicated, but is a truer marketplace - let's you set a bid/ask price and then you wait until someone hits it)

Currency fair for comparison is about R100 less cost for same GBP out to ZAR (same GBP as above wise example to get R200,000)

If it's USD and you're transferring to an American bank account via ACH, then Shyft most likely wins. Fixed $14 transfer fee (amount independent) and the spread is decent.

Created my Shyft account on Saturday night and waiting for my account to be verified so I can send money to the UK. The wait is frustrating

Depends where you’re sending to, but a few solid options are Wise, Western Union, and Ria Money Transfer.
