Most of the mails are sent via comprised computers acting as bot mass mail servers. The reply address probably isn't real either.
It does help, banks are always on the lookout to have these sites shut down.

..mm, cant believe that after all the fuss about security people still reply to emails giving out personal details..
I found a site www.fraudfree.co.za each time I get a phony mail I send it to the SAPS listed address and cc the origional sender with a friendly message to burn in h%ll.

The guy went to his bank to apply for cell phone banking. He nor the bank
checked that he had changed his cell no. So i got the invite on his old cell#.so any movement on his acc. came to me. I phoned the bank 15 times but
nothing was done.Could have taken him to the cleaners.Contacted him thro his beneficeries on his account. Very Very Scary.
So a new hole has been found?

Damn, that sounded very Dilbertesque...
I can't imagine going without Internet Banking. Going to ATMs all the time to check my balance and getting shot for my cell or wallet... yeah, thats sounds safe. Or wasting my lunch time in qeues in the bank instead of a nice nap in the car...

As an aside, you don't even need to have an internet banking facility for your bank account to be compromised by web villains. Some years back a brother of mine had several hundred kilorand cleared from his account in online transactions. At that stage he'd never ever used a PC and never applied for online banking. It took the large SA bank nearly 6 months to find out it was an internal fraud - syndicates working with bank employees were opening internet banking facilities for users and sucking them dry. Though never reported in the Press, the bank's fraud investigator told my boet that the bank had lost over R30 million in that particular scam.
