I have an elderly relative who banks with Standard Bank but still uses ATM's only.
I don't have any experience with this bank's internet banking. Previous surveys on this site have not ranked them as the leading solution.
Is their internet offering competitive? Or is it not worth getting my relative up to speed with the new era?

What will your relative do on Internet banking?

If you help them set it up with beneficiaries and then have them write on a piece of paper how to:

1. Log in
2. View Balances/Transactions
3. Make Payments to existing beneficiaries

They should be able to use any internet banking. The older generation usually struggle a little with the more complex stuff like adding beneficiaries, purely because they won't do that regularly, but everything they will do every week/month, you can write down and they won't have any issues.

Just teach them to verify information on the confirmation pages before making payments (for full stops in correct places and so on)

They have 2 apps on Android (old and new), and I'm using both and is usually fulfils my needs, i.e. once-off payments, beneficiary payments, account transfers, etc. Only time I go to StdBank is to withdraw money. If i need anything else I usually speak to the banker on WeChat or email my banker. I haven't used the internet banking on a browser in a long time since using the app.

I have been using Standard Internet Banking for more than 10 years and consider it more "user friendly" than my wife's Nedbank. I have the app on my iPad but don't really use it. Do it all on my PC. I'm 79 so with a bit of initial hand holding your relative should be OK. I only go into my Branch when I cannot get any response from their useless online team. Complete idiots.
