Internet broken?

Ok, so it seems everything is working fine now. For how long though? lol

I spent 4 hours on their "support" line, 2 hours on a cell phone.
Managed to speak to 8 twits who couldn't help.
Went to the Telkom shop at Canal walk, and they showed me what happened on their screen.
Hopefully it'll be fixed today, need to go home and check.

I am in Florida Hills. It looks that they are doing something because now it is impossible to ping anything, network is completely dead.

This sounds horribly wrong. You are in Florida Hills like me and on my connection ping fails to resolve yahoo. Is that some kind of ADSL load shedding?

my axxess saix connection just died, can only access local sites, Wynberg 2 Cape Town exchange

Major ADSL problem in Roodepoort area

Hi All,

I am posting this to try to help a friend who lives in the Florida area of Roodepoort, his Telkom ADSL (The top-of-the-range 4MB/s package), Telkom ISP, has been dysfunctional for several days now. Most websites - both local and international - are simply unreachable, or are EXTREMELY slow, i.e. 10 minutes to load just the front page.

Telkom as usual are telling him that his PC is faulty, but this is most likely bull as nothing has changed, and he has a good, fully paid-for anti-virus anti-malware anti-spyware installed and working. He basically has no internet for several days now, and his business has almost ground to a halt as a result.

He would really appreciate to hear from anyone experiencing ADSL problems in the Johannesburg area, I am not sure if it is a regional/localised problem or not.

Has anyone got a similar experience/ tips???

I am in Snowdon str Florida Hills Roodepoort, their brain is faulty, since yesterday I'm connecting using GPRS. They will refund us for that?

I told my friend to go out and buy himself a Vodacom or MTN mobile modem.

I bought the Vodacom Mobile Connect thingy a few weeks ago from Game for R1600 all in with SIM card, as I travel a lot, and it works GREAT, so far NO problems, except in the bundus where it still works but just gets a bit slower. Just a bit expensive at R289.00 per Gig...but worth it IMO.

I'm in Honeydew, I reckon that falls in Roodepoort area. Our lines have been cut and not replaced for going on 3 weeks now. Someone it seems stole the cables and Telkom obviously can't be bothered to replace them even after call logged.

Well it would seem then that different parts of Florida Hills are affected more than others. I'm located just before the Flora Centre, and as I said previously, had no internet connection from late afternoon yesterday until about a few hours ago.

I see they repaired it :

I do not know if anybody from Telkom is reading this but I do not have any connectivity since Thursday. All attempts to report that on 08000375375 failed because nobody answers and I do not want to hold longer than 45 minutes. I have reported fault, went to Westgate Telkom shop and they did it on line. Now I am listening stories that they will react on such reporting in couple of months. Is there any efficient way to sort ADSL problem out? Or I must cancel contract with Telkom and get iBurst?

I have reported fault at Telkom shop at Westgate and they have sent technician on Sunday. Guy was here replaced something in their box outside of complex and nothing, I still do not have Internet. Whatever you do they persistently directing you towards that Idonotanswerforhour 0800375375. Who is the person who is in charge of that 0800375375 and what is it called.

Naturally I did all that to myself by reseting router and forgetting that I reseted router, during that general network failure. Otherwise I waited 45 minutes 0800375375.
