Would Vodacom (or CellC and MTN for that matter) disconnect you from the internet when you access pr0N sites? After two or three hours of browsing, the moment you go onto a porn site, it disconnects. This has happened many many times. Surely you should be able to browse any site you please since you're paying for the data?

Are they really looking. I wonder. Is there something about the site that would cause a problem?

I was going to add that this was for a friend, but who'd believe me :o But I don't have the name of the porn sites, but I know it's not just one. And EVERY time he goes to those sites, he gets disconnected.

By law you cannot monitor what other people access on the internet. And if there is a need its a very very looooong process.

Yup, and everybody is happy with this. Till they run up a huge bill and then suddenly they want detailed reports on which sites they visited. And then Vodacom is lower than snail-***** for not providing it.

But to answer the question; Vodacom does not monitor which sites you visit or shape or restrict your IP session in any way.

With one exception. There are in-line scanners that will look for malicious activities / attacks aimed against you. If these are detected or protocols don't react the way they are expected to do, the firewalls will terminate your session with that site.

And this could well be what you're seeing. If you access the site and it tries to push something down to you that the firewalls don't like, they disconnect you from that site.

But again, it's not because it's an adult site, rather just one that's up to no good.

Also, if ACM (Adult Content Management) is active on your account, you will be blocked from erotic sites. The fact that you say it happens to a number of sites, makes me believe someone (your parents?) have got it turned on.

If you PM me the cell number, I'll check.

Heh, like I said, it's not me, it's a friend who's got this problem (yeah yeah believe it or not! :p) His parents have nothing to do with it, he has got a prepaid internet bundle he uses. I'll find out what his nr is and what sites he is trying to visit and PM you.

Just to clear things out, if I was having trouble accessing porn, I would have said so. Things like surfing porn don't embarrass me :D ;)

LoL. PM me those sites as well, and I can test it for you, cause I am using a VC prepaid sim as well. You don't mention what device he is using.

He is using his phone. N81 I think. Will get the sites from him later.

Does he have the phone on charge while browsing? Maybe his battery is "pap"... What happens when he connects and then try the pron site first?

Very interesting - if what v3g said is true, then it proves that (some) pr0n sites peddle more than just eyewash :D

Out of interest - how does the Adult Content Manager recognize adult sites? Does VC have a list? Is it somebody's job to scour the internet for new pron sites everyday and update said list? Are you hiring?

... or does it just block any site with more than 20% flesh colour covering the screen? :p

LooooL, no, they won't have a list. There are 2 many sites.

I think it would rather check for the words on the site, like nude and s3x and stuff...

There actually is a list. As well as other methods, like key words.

There are services similar to the virus program providers where you subscribe to a service and you get a list of 'adult sites' based on certain criteria.

For example, chat sites are also deemed adult for mobile devices, so if ACM is active on your handset, you won't be able to access these sites.
