Internet Explorer does not want to SEARCH

Hi guys,
got a problem with user's laptop, thats got me stumped... cannot find similar problem on websearches.
This is the problem :
Open internet, Google.co.za is default page.
type in the google search bar to do a search / or top corner also mos a google search bar.
a few seconds... nothing....then screen refreshes, with new google page, blank, like when u open explorer first time
sometimes IE would completely kick out to desktop, got to open IE again.

this was with IE7
so, we upgraded to IE8... same problem
as soon as u type anything in google search bar, wait wait wait... screen refreshes, blank google page again
it works fine in Firefox, type to search , google search results come up.

at first thought it is IE vs Google issue, tried Bing.com as search engine for IE8... same thing, type to do a search, boom, fresh screen, no search results.
WTF is that? somehow IE does not want to do searches with google.co.za/google.com/bing

if i put http://search.microsoft.com/?mkt=en-ZA in IE then it gives search results
aardvark.co.za or ananzi.co.za or altavista.com as search engine works fine

any ideas?

Um please install another browser for your customer and tell him to only use IE if he needs it for his banking sites. It is a very unsecure browser.

yaa, he generally uses Firefox, but its just a nagging issue that IE does this.
opening aardvark.co.za also has a built in google search bar... when u type in there the search works fine, gives results.
but open google as a new webpage and try to do a search and u just get the finger the page just refreshes, no results

well, it is Internet Explorer. He didn't really expect it to work with no problems did he?

hehehe...yeah, but it is a bit of a concern why it does that, and I cannot figure out why.
some people prefer to use IE, and won't just move to a different browser coz one picks up a problem, need to find a solution

Dude you should tell him that if he uses IE he opens himself and his entire pc to attack.

The oke will kuk his brooks and use anything else you tell him .
