Using iburst on Win XP with (and before) latest firmware upgrade I will be browsing along happily, and without warning and with no errors, all my IE browser windows just close. Any websites, local or international.

Have Sygate Personal Firewall, Anti-virus fully up to date, Spybot Search and Destroy installed and immunized, XP Service Pack 1 with almost all latest patches. UTD via USB in Bryanston base station.

Any ideas?

Solution - use Firefox :)

I seriously agree that your best solution is to switch to FireFox - only use IE for misguided sites where their webdev people insist on only supporting IE.

Yep, take the hint, even your computer is telling you.... use Firefox.

Quite similar to IE or not??

Similar, yes.
Better, yes.
Faster, yes.
More reliable, yes.
More features, yes.
More secure, yes.
Free, yes.
Any reason not to use it, no.

:D

You could fill a whole section on configuring firefox to suit your needs. It’s everything MSIE should aspire to be.

yeah everyone is skeptical at first not wanting to change from ie, but firefox is withotu a doubt the best browser out there. Oh and get plugins when you get it, oh man the plugins make it awesome, the stumble upan plugin is crazy good. all that and it can multithread.

And from the people who brought you FireFox . . . . . Thunderbird makes a pretty good alternative to Outlook Express.

thunderbird is ok, but when it comes to syncronizing calenders with PDAs it cant beat outlook 2003, but its junkmail filter cant be beat

another vote for Firefox, for anyone still using IE. I resisted the idea of an 'alt' browser for a long time. Now I see how dumb I was. Get Firefox. IE is an open gateway for rubbish programs, stupid ads and spyware to install themselves on your PC without your permission.
Everytime I use IE, I have to run proggies to clean out the rubbish that came pouring in.
re IE closing. Try downloading n running Pest Patrol, then after its done an update and full scan, uninstall it, as tends to wants to take over. Also maybe try The Cleaner, in case of a trojan..

Firefox is the only solution for more reliability and security. No more ActiveX which can harm you. Wonderful firefox world!!!

haha... Lets see, XP SP2 is around 266 MB (278,927,592 bytes)... and all the patches fixing the SP2 bugs...so you're only out by around 300MB of compressed patches.

Firefox and Thunderbird rule!

Firefox is great... Thunderbird is crap... it is incredibly buggy, slow and doesnt have HALF the functionality that Outlook 2003 has... Also have you ever tried to find out where Thunderbird keeps its emails?? I might be daft or something but I couldnt find it.. Also its contact management is a bit crappy too...

On my laptop (WinXP) its:
C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\default\610q3lme.slt\Mail\

Its not exactly difficult to find as most new application data/settings get saved into the 'application data' sub-directories
