Internet growth in SA stalls

Wake me up when there's a an affordable connection that can actually stream YouTube vids without buffering..
 
For once, the horrible World Wide Worx is not restating the glaringly obvious, I suppose. Woohoo. Their past "studies" have been such drivel that I am not sure whether this one can be trusted.
 
Any report that describes TELKOM as a hero in our local market, albeit briefly, is toilet paper :rolleyes:
 
speaking of Neotel, whats up with them? Been awfully quiet lately.

Anyone on their trials?
 
i think to poor people or previously disadvantage people this doesn't mean much , food on the table and a place to sleep is higher on the to do list....
 
African countries with a higher internet penetration rate than SA:

Mauritius, Morocco, St Helena, Sao Tome and Principe Islands, Reunion, Seychelles, Tunisia....
...oh and um, Zimbabwe.

I suspect you meant currently disadvantaged? as currently advantaged people would most certainly have food on their tables and would have a decent place to sleep...

It is very definitely guavamint's fault that access to the internet, from one's own home [or lack thereof], has not reached the masses, has not changed significantly since 1994. And the Grim Poisonous Ivyness Creep is much to blame for this shocking situation, as well as her predecessor Jay Naidoo, who recently [along with Alec Erwin] basically admitted that legislation and especially DoC interference with & prevention of competition in the telecoms sector, were & are the cause of the current woeful disgrace that the telecoms sector has been and continues to be.
 
Naidoo only chirps that now cause he is involved in the call center business and is restricted financially because of his own policies and handywork when he was minister, karma is a bitch hey Jay. twat.
Erwin just seems to be going from one blunder to the next as well.

What use is by only looking at internet connections? One should compare it to the number of computers / computer users. Nowhere does it state that there are only about 6 million computers in SA, of which 4 million is located in business / govt. Only 2 of the 12 million households have access to a computer. In light of this, we have a fairly good penetration rate. To rapidly increase access to the internet, we need to make computers more affordable as well as improve access and affordability of broadband internet.
