Please shout if you can help. I am looking for a type of "internet in a box" we are looking at providing some of the container shops with additional services, access to information for students, job searches etc. anybody aware of a company that has coin/voucher operated goodies that will work with this? I guess you would need 3g or radio for the access part, would that be too costly for those neighbourhoods? I think most city internet cafe's are doing something like R5 for 1/5 hour. Any ideas or advice?

I would suggest going with a tablet pc, placing it into some kind of box, that is custom designed to fit the tablet...

Then setting up with an Android system to only have internet all time access, and get some app that allows for some type of voucher number that can be purchased and entered into the app itself which would allow for a specific amount of time on the internet according to how much was purchased.

You need something very simple and easy, because people don't like complex setup's, thats why a tablet pc is probably the best way to go, you can pick them up for about R995.00 ea and then just apply for mweb uncapped solution, something like a 384 kbps line should do the trick, it also depends on the amount of 'terminals' that you want running, then you could setup a network router just to be able to connect them all to the same line, by splitting them.

Does that help?

Call MWeb. I remember them advertising a Big Black Box which had internet in it ;)

Sorry, couldn't resist.

LOL!! Yeah, worst case you can rent my uncapped mwebs 384 (during business hours only!) for like I dunno... maybe R1000 a month. Yeah, that's your best best. I'll throw in a Linux powered P4. You can't go wrong.
