Internet - Protecting my kids

Can anyone suggest good software that I can install on my sons laptop to prevent 'undesirable' internet images ?
His laptop never leaves home and connects wirelessly via my ADSL router.
My wife and I have often done innocent web searches and are sometimes surprised by the unrelated content that is returned.
I know that the internet is rife with adult material but is there software that will effectively prevent this material being accessed when installed on a specific computer ?

I would appreciate any suggestions.
 
I'm sure your son will find a way around whatever method you implement. They're usually smarter :P

I totally agree with you. Eventually !!
I'm hoping to prevent adult content from appearing when innocent searches are attempted.

I remember 15 years ago, my boss got internet access at work. He did not know how to use it and asked me to show him. We were using Netscape at the time. He asked if we could look up anything. I said yes. He asked me to search for Indian Cuisine. The 1st 3 results were food related. The 4th result spoke of 'hot indian p_ssy'. Naturally we never clicked on the link, but I'm sure a curious kid would be tempted in a similar situation.

When my clients ask about control, most of them don't take my advice as it seems to be too much work.

When I say monitor and be involved when childern use computers, I can see most parentals switch off, as to say "I don't have control over my chidren". I seen a 10yo take his laptop and plugging in directly into router, after I disable wifi on the laptop and gave his dad the wifi key.
 
There are a bazillion firefox addons for just his reason. Install the top two are three and you are all good.

You could always go for family adsl provided by an isp like xdsl.

However with all things you can always bypass with right methods like for example vpn. That however can be denied on router level, but then again you can do away with this with something like a online web os or TOR...

Played around with this software for a while, really good and has tons of features.

Problem is there is always another way around it one way or another. If you keep a certain level of trust with your kids it will do a lot more than just blocking him from everything out there. Blocking porn and such things are ok but when you start blocking games and other things they will start to get more sly and take it as a challenge to get around it :P
 
The only real way you can porn-proof your sons Internet access is to sit with him while he browses.
