Internet session disconnect issue

Hey guys,

After some experimenting I have found out the following:

Disable DMZ if you enabled it on your neotel modem. This seems to be the cause of my modem freezing. I had my neotel modem connected to a belkin wireless n router so i wanted it to allow all connections to the belkin - i then set up my belkin to do all the firewalling.

Essentially a DMZ puts your modem within the firewall - disabling it puts it outside of the firewall.

Ive noticed much lower latency and less frequent disconnect issues. I ended up manually setting up port forwarding to my belkin instead of having the dmz disabled. Anyways, hope this helps some of you.

Sorry but what is a DMZ? And how do we go about switching it off?

connection

Hi everyone ,

i have read this thread and i have the same problem as Valken. Been with Neotel for just a week and already the connection doesn't work ... and when it does , it gives me 20 kbps , but i have a neoconnect prime unlimited . Called technical support , it is the same story over and over"it is a national problem" and "they are busy fixing this problem" and they don't call back to let you know what is happening.well i don't know about you guys , but a R1000 for unlimited 20kbps or no connection at all is a bit expensive lol i'll have to end my contract in a month if they don't sort their issues.they should make sure that the service works before offering them(well it works for some, and not at all for others)....... even though i don't really like telkom , it looks like i have to go back to square one .

DMZ - Demillitarized Zone. Its an option on the neoflex modem settings. You want to have it enabled - it comes enabled as default. Disabling it means choosing an IP address you want to have sit outside the firewall. This makes port fowarding unneccesary as everything comes through on the ip u specify. It also makes u susceptable to nukes and hackers etc. I used it because i had a firewall on my belkin router which did all the dirty work.

What about on a Prime Connect unit

I dont think neotel prime has a built in firewall since it does not have a builter in router? I could be mistaken though.
