This is so minute of an audience that it really does not play a role ... most shows barely hit more than 1 million downloads.

We all know what sort of traffic runs on Internet daily and what it is being used for ... not need to kid ourselves.

The internet is driven by innovative new uses for the meduim and not because people want to pirate all the stuff they can't afford like they are doing now.

Look at the massive growth of MySpace and Orkut and other social networks and user generated content (Podcasting) this year for example ... that is pioneering and not moaning because you can't download more movies because you got capped by the 5th of this month.

LOL bwana! Now, what if you don't need to watch those shows? Would you still download it just because it's free? And believe me, nobody needs these shows... I've been without TV for almost 15 years now, and I still don't miss the stupid thing!

Interesting you mention Podcasting, since that is high bandwidth. Certainly high bandwidth for this country.

Social networks are more about people than technology, despite this is see MySpace has video content. Seems even your examples only highlight the things I apparently shouldn’t be wanting for fear of people shouting abuse.

So you pay for 3 gigs = R 210 or what ever you pay. when you reach it you have no internet connection. = Telkom and most ISP's

IS at least give use some local bandwith.

Why cannot things be like what they use to be. After 3 gigs no INT but you have local.

The best thing it to wait till next year and the SNO will be in play and if they are cheaper i jump with out a 2nd blink.

So if you pay for something and get some more then so be it. not your problem it is theres.:o
 
for the life of me I can't understand why IS opted for hard-capping when they could quite easily introduce a local/international BW distinction and then bill say 10bucks/GB local and 55/GB international.

Then let you use all you like!

For one thing those prices are insane! Your standard 3gb int / 27gb local account would cost twice as much as it does now. :confused:

Doubt they'll make much of a difference - they're out to make money like everyone else.

Hopefully we'll make it past tsunami season unscathed and the DoC will finally do something on behalf of the people. :rolleyes:
 
it was an example, but clearly downloading 30GB local should be less than an account cost now which includes international.

yes you do. Contract of sale. You agree to pay x amount and receive x amount back. Unjustified enrichment can be induced both intentionally and unintentionally.

But this is all besides the point.

Just to get back on track here. I agree with everything bwana has to say and disagree with almost all of what u are saying, ettu. Give me a moment and i will find some quotes....

First of all you have no right to tell anyone what they do with their bandwidth or in our case lack there of. If i want to download rubbish then that is up to me!

You call some of these people, and i am assuming u are aiming that at me, 'pig' for cosuming more than what is reasonable. Get a grip, dude. Go to any other country in the world , and i mean ANY, and ask them if they think that 100GB a month is unreasonble. i dont think you will find many people who agree with u.

Many users overseas get terabytes of data every month and i see nothing wrong with this. What i dont understand is why u are against us getting more bandwidth and having access to more content on the web...How is this going to be the way forward for dsl in this country? More restrictions....

What you are saying just doesn't make sense to me...
 
The least IS could do is have unused bandwidth carried over to the next month now. Greed can be the only answer as to why they don't do this already.

Lets see stealing is taking something that doesn't belong to you without permission. You pay for bandwidth so it belongs to you and if you are allowed to use more than your allocated bandwidth it's not without permission so it can't be stealing.

The issue is electricity. Everytime you send out something you send out electric pulses, which has to be paid for. Although Telkom charges way too much for that pulses it still has to pay for it, which means ESKOM gets a share of that nice profits, they are just as much a leech as Telcom.

Most people would agree, yes. Most definitely 100GB is unreasonably low :D

On the subject of leeching, a leech takes something and gives something in return. It pumps out painkillers, anti-ceptics and anti-glogging agents. You hear that, Telkom was right all along, they are not leeches. :D

That i right. What ever you do with you bandwith is your problem and no ones else.

If you take something it is stealing BUT if you take it and give it to many people then it is SHARING. Sharing is caring in this world and with out it ALL of use would not be doing what we do and that is sharing with eachother.

So we can do all we want but when it comes to the internet, if it heaven for all of us. :)
 
I think local within the IS's network should be unlimited so if I want to download all linux distro's on IS's ftp server I should be able to. Corporates are paying huge amounts for there leased lines to IS so why can't we have unlimited local access as long as you are on the IS network or one of there leased line customers network's

Because all IS cares about is money and they are following the South African trend of stuff the consumer we want more money.
IS watched there competitor Telkom implent hard capping successfully and now they also want to get away with it and think if telkom an do it then why cant they.Framework for understanding competitors.
Also i dont see IS offering packagaes with more cheap local bw after hardcap but it dosent really matter as they dont give a **** about the home users they just care about the businesses.Is it just me or must services always decrease instead of increasing.Nice one IS loose customer loyalty before the SNO starts up.
