Good morning guys,

I would like some advice with regards to an ISP and possible solution for my internetlessness. We live on a farm in Warmbad (Roodekuil) and I'm in desperate need to get a connection here. We have (I think) a 512kb wireless connection, but that is on my dad's pc and tbh, it's absolutely ****. It's erratic, but regardless of that, gaming is not possible. I can play (in example) Dota, but sooner or later I'll get disconnected before the game ends. As for other games, I haven't tried any yet, but I'm completely sure WoW or Modern Warfare won't work.

We do have a Telkom phone line in my dad's office but apparently they can't install DSL here (not 100% sure if this is the truth, I'll have to phone Telkom myself to find out).

Are there any internet solutions you guys can advice? We had iBurst in Pretoria and that worked fine (basically) with WoW, CoD and Dota. I basically want internet to play games. I'm not sure though if their infrastructure will support a connection on a farm. (BTW we're about 10kms before you get into Warmbad, on the old Warmbad road). I've done my research on Neotel and apparently the connections are too k@k to play online games with.

Any other wireless solutions I can try? I'll have to phone Telkom first to find out about the DSL, but any other help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Peace

If Telkom cannot install adsl then there is not really a cost effective solution for your problem. The problem on farms is lots of cable theft. The other problem is that farms are usually too far away from DSLAMs, therefore Telkom might not be able to supply you with ADSL. I know that Telkom use towers on some places (works almost the same as cellphones). Do you know if 3G is available in your area? Is there perhaps a company that provides wireless internet services in your area?

Well i remember seeing alot of Screamer Wimax adverts when driving through Warmbad earlier this year, have you tried them?

And yes while alot of people might have complaints etc etc, in this case when you don't have much of an alternative....nothing to lose.
