[OPINION]
The Government, ICASA and Telkom have got no plans to make anything affordable, the masses need basic telephony, not broadband. ADSL is a niche market and is being used fund other services (like buying BCX) The only way Telkom cant deliver broadband to the masses, its totally incapable - I hear the argument of "Half the price and then you double your subscriber base" but its not simple as that. Telkom will have to employ more people th handle the loading (they cant handle the current load with the staff they have) and then the profits are down due to more employees MILKING the parastatal (No matter what anyone says, its still a parastatal)
SNOT doesnt have to worry about competing on the 'Last Mile' infrastructure as one of SNO's partners is ESKOM and they have their own "Exchanges" (big rooms with electrical switchgear) and for this reason they have a higher penetration of last mile infrastructure than telkom.
or SNOT will go wireless as many around the world already have. As for internet, SNO doesnt have a care as competing with SAIX and TelkomInternet as those companies are not Telkom - and competing with non-Telkom companies is allowed ;-) "They are different companies" (to give a rough quote from Telkom)
