Interview question

"it all started when I was born...5 hours later...Thats when I took my first steps you see"

They want to know about stuff that makes you awesome at the job you're applying for.

Yeah so say things like "I work well in a team and independently. I preform under heavy workloads and client pressure. I enjoy (Something relating to the field's concepts or the progression thereof)" etc...

They want to know about stuff that makes you awesome at the job you're applying for.

Actually that's the one question that in my opinion is them wanting to know something about you that DOES NOT relate to the job.

Agreed. It's not about the job you're applying for, it's about who you are, what you want from life, why you've taken the career trajectory that you have, and what inspires you.

In other words, like ALL other interview questions, it's way too fully unpack within the 20 seconds you're expected to answer it. An interview is as much about how you say what you as what you're saying. Are you saying it confidently? Are you making eye contact? Can you drop in some humour? Can you stop and listen to your interviewers, or do you nervously babble over them?

Just see interviewers like your friends at a braai, and answer them like you would in that scenario. No pressure.

You should really have an answer prepared top this way before. It is almost a given that this will be asked.. Elaborate on why you are where you are in your career - good decisions and bad decisions if you are that way inclined. Where you want to go, and what you hope to achieve as a minimum I'd say.

Now this is a story all about how
My life got flipped-turned upside down
And I'd like to take a minute
Just sit right there
I'll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bel-Air

In west Philadelphia born and raised
On the playground was where I spent most of my days
Chillin' out maxin' relaxin' all cool
And all shooting some b-ball outside of the school
When a couple of guys who were up to no good
Started making trouble in my neighborhood
I got in one little fight and my mom got scared
She said, "You're movin' with your auntie and uncle in Bel-Air."

I begged and pleaded with her day after day
But she packed my suitcase and sent me on my way
She gave me a kiss and then she gave me my ticket.
I put my Walkman on and said, "I might as well kick it."

First class, yo, this is bad
Drinking orange juice out of a champagne glass.
Is this what the people of Bel-Air living like?
Hmm, this might be alright.

But wait I hear they're prissy, bourgeois, all that
Is this the type of place that they just send this cool cat?
I don't think so
I'll see when I get there
I hope they're prepared for the prince of Bel-Air

Well, the plane landed and when I came out
There was a dude who looked like a cop standing there with my name out
I ain't trying to get arrested yet
I just got here
I sprang with the quickness like lightning, disappeared

I whistled for a cab and when it came near
The license plate said "Fresh" and it had dice in the mirror
If anything I could say that this cab was rare
But I thought, "Nah, forget it."
– "Yo, home to Bel-Air."

I pulled up to the house about 7 or 8
And I yelled to the cabbie, "Yo home smell ya later."
I looked at my kingdom
I was finally there
To sit on my throne as the Prince of Bel-Air

I don't do well in interviews. My interviews usually last less than 20 minutes which is apparently really bad. So my boyfriend suggested before my next interview I need to read up on stuff. I started here - https://www.thebalance.com/top-interview-questions-and-best-answers-2061225

The next interviews I had was like 2 days after that, I got taken on as a freelancer by both the places I went to interview. I'm usually nervous as f..k, that day I just went with it. I figured that if I get the job that would be great. My goal was to have an interview longer than 20 min. Both lasted around an hour.

As for your question, I rehearsed an answer. Saying the most basic stuff about myself. Geek, metal head, animal lover. I thought about expanding the answers but the people were more interested in what I can do, rather than who I am. So I guess I was lucky there

I just say this with a straight face: "I was born 400 years ago in the highlands of Scotland, and I cannot die..."
