Always hear people go on about Investec.

Are they any good as a bank - or are they much the same as any other bank?

Considering switching. Just want to hear others opinions / experiences with them.

Depends what you want out of your bank. They certainly have a value proposition but it's not for everyone.

Moved to them from FNB, worlds apart. Much better client service. Their app isnt as functionally padded out as FNB but it allows you yo do the important banking stuff. Also their 24/7 call centre is actually useful

I've been with FNB for about 15 years now. Never had any issues per se. But figured I have a look around and see what else is out there.

Thinking about investing and saving more than I currently am.

Their financial planning is pretty decent. It’s a good option if you don’t know much about investing.

You do get charged fees for that, but it may be worthwhile by saving you in taxes and helping prevent you from making bad investment decisions.

You could try it out for a few years and see.

The best advice so far on this thread, do banking with a bank. Invest smartly

Learned that myself, pulling all investments via my bank, waited 5 years, and make losses up 18 months later because of high fees.

All I can say, “let your money work for you”

Thanks. One of their reps reached out to me on LinkedIn if all places. Setup a call for next week. No harm in exploring and seeing what they have to offer I guess.

I’ve been meaning to look into more financial planning. When it comes to investments I and pretty new to it all.

Want to get into property too. Much I feel that’s a big risk.

I didn’t know they would do that.
Make sure it isn’t a scammer.

Rather sign up with investec yourself through calling them or their website.

Let me leave you with something!

1. Do property right
2. You can make 100% back what it cost you from month 1

Use it... or not

If you have a home/car loan you'll get very good interest rates and the private banker answers you very quickly. Their call center is staffed with graduates so no funny "eish" noises.

Worth it in my opinion. When we needed physical euros to take abroad I emailed my guy and another guy ticked up at our door with an envelope.

Emailed them that I don't use my account that much because I'm living abroad, they phoned, suggested and converted it to digital account (R200pm).

I mean the shot just works.

Sounds like good service. Their global stuff could be useful as well when going to the UK and the international payments etc that I occasionally make to the wife’s UK account.

No car loans (both paid off) just the house loan.

That’s with Nedbank. Not sure I’d switch - unless it was a good rate. But I think the fees involved would negate that.

Was looking at some of their savings accounts. Some offering over 9% - that seems pretty good. haven’t looked too much more into it.

But so far what I am hearing it’s a great bank if you meet their requirements for an account with them.

Just a heads up - and maybe I got very unlucky - but the day I wanted to close my FNB account I had to physically go to the branch. Luckily I was still in the country at the time.
