Hi folks

MyADSL have received an invitation to the BBBEE Indaba later this week. I personally feel that it falls outside the scope of where we would like to involve ourselves, but as usual your feedback will govern whether we will get involved or not.

Please give your feedback! :D

Regards,

RPM

"Gauteng Provincial Government is preparing to finalise the Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) Strategy to guide this empowerment imperative.

Thus far, we have a working document that needs further consultation with stakeholders. The document evolved from a process driven by the Department of Finance and Economic Affairs (DFEA) working together with a specialist service provider appointed accordingly.

You are cordially invited to a consultation session of on the BBBEE Strategy. The DFEA is in the process of inviting stakeholders for interaction at this Indaba. Amongst others, we will interact with organised business, organised labour, civil society and the Tripartite Alliance.

The Indaba will take place as follows:

Date: 14 July 2005

Time: 08:00 for 09:00 – 14:00

Venue: The Arena at the University of Johannesburg

Soweto Campus (former Vista University), Old Potchefstroom Road"

Maybe if you participate , then a senior member of ICASA will join MYADSL ?? :)

It would be to no avail, as they profit directly from the extortion. Dont bite the hand that feeds you.

On my opinion we should be part on any decision-making process and it shows again how regocnized we are...

BBBEE affects this forum singularly and collectively, as with most things in the everyday lives of the citizenry, to some degree or the other. Essential that you attend, even if only to gauge such impact and not consciously contribute...

My feeling is also that we should totally take advantage of such invitations - if time permits, and if we can advance our broadband & telecoms agenda [which is not at all hidden], especially when the ears of government representatives are about, but time is a precious commodity, and personally I think it would be better if MyADSL were invited to send a speaker to talk about how the economy relies on telecoms and broadband, and what steps must be taken to unshackle the economy from the TelkoDemonopoly chains that result in retrenchment & resentment...

I think this is important :

If you can't go you can have a voice here : http://www.dti.gov.za/bee/bee.htm

Cosatu appear to have excluded basic telephony : http://www.cosatu.org.za/docs/2003/Bee.htm

Access to broadband and basic telephony should become one of the key demands.

I wish they would just call it empowerment of the poor - All the poor of all colours.

Instead Cosatu write : "To ensure a meaningful BEE for all" -
this could be taken to mean that non-blacks are excluded from ALL, which of course is ridiculous.
