FW800 is best :). I have a 500GB FW800/400/USB2 LACIE from 3 years back - sadly the initial unit died after 2 days but this replacement still works.

What kind of consistent transfer speeds you get with that? Is Mac the only thing that supports FW800?

My disk utility says it is a ST350083 0AS Media - which leads me to believe it is a Barracuda® 7200.10 Hard Drive.

Not sure about the warranty - cant put my hands on the box right now.

Last question...Noise-wise, what is it like? I have an old external hdd which sounds like a small aircraft...I presume this is a bit quieter than the 1TB cos there's only one drive to spin?

Seems pretty quiet - I'm currently cloning a time machine disk from one USB2 external to the iomega and - apart from it being agonisingly slow - its quietly (though not silently) going about its business.

The blue LED is a headache inducing annoyance so I've duck'ed taped over it.

I'm very impressed with my Iomega 1TB - it does create a bit of vibration on the desk (I have it behind my laptop) and the fan is audible - but I have already become used to it. I have mine on it's side with the blue light facing the wall so it doesn't bother me.

Re: above - if indeed these units to contain Seagate drives - I am much happier... I have had incredibly good luck with Seagates and have never lost data (quite the opposite with WD- drives)

I was sitting back yesterday and thinking about the pricing of these 1TB HDD Enclosures - for the price - it is cheaper to buy them and rip out the 2 500GB drives as opposed to purchasing 2 new 500GB SATA drives! What a deal!

The 500GB is much smaller and lighter than the 1TB, which follows I supose. Also not very loud at all. I like it :)
