iOS 5 GM is here

can you confirm this is working 100% ?My cellC stick is about to take a serious knock!

My phone is fine and a co-worker has just started the restore on his iPad. So looking good.

Look as always this is not the official release (yet) and iTunes is in beta. I've been running iOS5 since beta 1 and early iTunes versions were a pain, but it's gotten much better so I'd say now it's a pretty safe bet.

Awesome thanks, is any data lost during the upgrade and will it be possible to revert back to iOS 4 ? sorry for all the noob questions but I don't trust much of the stuff google turns up...

Yes and no. I did see reports early on in the beta that backups made with newer iTunes can't be restored to iOS4. So you would have to make a backup in iTunes 10.4 save it someplace, install iTunes 10.5 beta 7, backup, shift+restore firmware and then restore from backup. If you are not happy with the results you'd have to go back to iTunes 10.4 to restore the original backup and iOS4.

Where can I find the actual backup on my pc(win7) to copy it and save it?

I get an unknown error(3194) when trying to restore the software?

Answered you on iPhoneZA:
Make sure you are shift restoring using the beta iTunes linked.

remove any lines from your hosts file pointing to Cydia server from apple server. TinyUmbrella is usually the culprit for this

Hosts file is located at /Windows/system32/drivers/etc

The fix posted by fxit_man is the correct fix for the error as a result of installing/using the tinny umbrella software.

This is the final version unless they find a show stopper bug.

Do you need your UDID registered to install this? And can you use iTunes Beta 9?

Pretty slick - I miss gestures though. :o

How do I access iMessage on this thing? I'm a bit disappointed with this iOS 5 I must admit. Perhaps my expectations were too high...
