iOS5 Announced!!

When you update through iTunes you also pay for your data.

I'm sure you're right... Last time I did an OTA update was in 2007 and I remember it being like getting a text message from VC to my Nokia ;)

I must be honest and say that iOS 5 is more like iOS 4.5.
No way! There are tons of new features, and they're big features too, like wifi sync, the new notifications ... This icloud business will make iOS devices a LOT more capable.

iCloud is not an iOS feature so that doesn't count LOL! I was hoping for more GUI changes. Newer look and feel.

Agreed, they highlighted ten but there was mention of 200 new features in the OS. Also, the more I think about it the more I like "this icloud business".

iMessage finally! Hope it is as well integrated as BBM, will give it a test run on my iPod touch first but this definitely swings my next upgrade in favour of the iPhone 5 over what ever version of the Bold Blackberry releases that week.

Much welcomed after Whatsapp removed support for iPod Touch etc. so abruptly... Oh wait.. That sounds like an Apple stunt... :p

Only Apple fans could get excited about finally being able to use the volume key as a shutter, crop and rotate photos within iOS and being able to search the entire mail. Where's proper multitasking? Where's proper App integration, not just Twitter. iMessage, who cares? What the world needs is cross platform.

iOS 5 even though a big advance #fail

Geez didn't take you long to start flaming, did it? Well how about automatic, free integration with their new iCloud service. Automatic syncing of your content, backup of your content, and availability on all your devices?

This seems a bit ahead of the other, uhm, droids out there.

Why don't you just go out and get yourself an Apple device? You know you want to... :-)

I did and sold it again (the iPad 2), piece of poo. I agree, the iCloud is pretty cool although automatic syncing is nothing new either. Android isn't far behind.

What pisses me of is how Apple copies other's ideas and sells them as new and innovative. The notification system is an Android copy, iMessage is just another BBM. All these things should have rolled out 2 years ago.

Agreed that a lot of the new functionality is copied, where they normally innovate and lead the way. I guess sometime they get caught with their pants down :D But, iCloud really is kicking @ss with its functionality, no doubt there.

I realize also people are going to complain about the data usage, sure it will cost you more. But, if products like Apple's never causes more data usage, how are the data prices ever going to come down? Look at this as Apple's way of helping make broadband more affordable.

Completely agree, it will be interesting to see how the carries react to the service. I have a feeling though that we'll soon be seeing iPhone packages for R1000+ offering 3gb of data lol.

Its a big update and iCould seem really cool, it has real potential. But the hype about the shutter button and cropping pictures is simply pathetic, its something Apple should be ashamed of for not including it in their very first iPhone. I remember owing a PDA, maybe 7,8 years back which could do that natively. I think even my old Siemens S55 phone which had a 256 colour display and a stick on camera could rotate and crop pictures :-).

Really hope there is an Afrikaans dictionary or at least allow me to disable auto correct but keep spell check on.

With the iPhone being introduced in 2007 and androids only actually gaining traction in 2010 I wouldn't say Apple is behind with rolling out stuff.
Then there's iPods and iPads.
Yeah, they pretty much put categories on the map

I suppose you pretend that Android and Blackberry and pretty much everyone else doesn't copy anything, right? Haha

Precisely. The whole Android and modern "smartphone" in General concepts are all based on iPhone to begin with..iPhone was first. It recreated the smartphone as we know it today.
