Is anyone checking out the beta right now? I'm thinking about it but I heard a lot of apps can crash so idk yet.

you heard correct. Whatsapp crashed a lot and bunch other apps. if stay in Apple enviroment it works great!

waiting for beta 4 or 5 before I try again

I don't trust the beta version of iOS. You could brick the phone.

if you dont know what you are doing probably yes. I ran ios6 beta 3+ and ios7 beta 2+. currently on iOS8 beta 3, havent had one problem ever with bricking or even restoring, upgrading or downgrading.

apps however do keep crashing. But gaining access to new features is nice and as well doing the dev stuff it does help seeing changes and taking advantage of new API's

Make sure UDID is registered and sorted mainly. if dont know what you are doing then dont do it. if know what doing. go for it if wiling to take risk and get bit annoyed with apps crashing etc.
