You are very much mistaken!! Verizon = CDMA, CellC = GSM 900 Mhz.

AT&T model is normal GSM 3G, should work on Vodacom, 8ta and MTN. Will also work on CellC, but probably only on EDGE. Not sure if they've implemented UMTS 900 on the new one - the old iPad 1 didn't have it.

CDMA is very different. CDMA iPad won't even have a place to put a sim card.

A lot of phones have wifi hotspot capabilities built in theses days - not blackberry though (AFAIK). For those people it makes a lot of sense to have one bundle on their primary device, typically the phone.

I would still go for the 3G - even if you don't end up using it (as you can still connect WiFi).

Or the new Hotspot function on the iPhone. The only problem is that you don't get GPS functionality then...
