Can anyone help me please. I'm trying to get my brother's iPad up and running again. Last night the iPad started updating it's firmware OTA and then after the update it showed the "Connect to iTunes" logo.

I installed the latest of version up iTunes on my Laptop and connected the iPad but then iTunes asked me again to Update or Restore.

Now everytime I try to Restore, the Apple Logo shows up and the progress bar goes to about 60% then it just hangs there.

iTunes still says "Restoring iPad Firmware" but the progress bar is not moving at all.

What should I do?

Is it necessary to have a sim card inserted into your iPad when you do a restore?

I still have the same issue with the iPad. Tried to restore to iOS9 but it gets stuck at the exact same place as when I tried to restore to iOS8.

It's a pity that Apple users are not able to help other people fix a problem.

10 days back I asked help and not a single reply.

I'm so glad I'm a Android user.

Steady on and sorry mate... Bad weekend to be in any thread other than the World Cup one (and even that's no fun). Just seen this now.
My suggestion... Download the .ipsw file directly. Linky... http://www.iclarified.com/8500/where-to-download-ipad-firmware-files-from
Once you have it, save it to your desktop. Open iTunes, connect the phone and open the iPhone tab... Then... Press and hold the Shift key while you click on the Restore option. Doing this will open Windows Explorer and you can navigate to the file on your desktop.
Over the years I've had a couple of iTunes and OTA updated fail, having the file and being able to manage the process, bypasses any little niggles.

Yeah, let me know. If there is still an issue we might have to go into DFU mode on the iPad first. Can talk you through it 'tho.

According to GSM Arena the CDMA is not a GSM device. The iPad 2 Wi-fi & 3G is a GSM device. So I would've thought that I should download the GSM version, not the CDMA.

My bad. The iPhone is the CDMA one. iPad is GSM

iPad is busy updating now after waiting about 2 hours for the ispw file to download.

I did what you said. Hold shift and click on Restore. Lets just hope it goes through with the update now and doesn't stop on about 60% again.

The iPad "iPad" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1).

Take it to an iStore. If your iPad is unable to complete the restore process, that would because of some sort of hardware failure.

Do I need to have a sim card inserted in the iPad when I do a restore or isn't it neccessary?

Could still try recovery mode...

Plug your iPad in and turn it off. Hold the Power button for 3 seconds, still holding it, press and hold the Home (so now it's Power and Home buttons together)... Hold for around 10 seconds, then release the Power button but keep holding the Home button.
After a couple of seconds, iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in Recovery Mode. Restore as per the way you just tried.
