Over the last few days, my home button on the Ipad has become increasingly non-responsive. Did some reading on the net - seems to be some unexplained software issue....

Haven't synched in a while - will do that and see if it helps...

By unresponsive:

Double clicking it, takes you to the home page, rather than bringing up the open-apps list at the bottom of the page. Repeated pressing then sometimes takes you from homescreen, to the 'search' page, despite never swiping left. It occasionally does nothing, no matter where I press, until I turn it sideways into landscape view, and then - if I press the button in the right area, it works. Mostly.

Anyone else also have the same issue?

Nope, never had that problem... I suggest you either reboot, reload your software, or visit your nearest iStore for repairs.

I had the same problem with mine barely new. How I solved it, hold the iPad on the edges, diagonally with both hands, and flex a little bit, the swab the edges and flex again. the problem will be gone.

If that does not work, swith off the iPad, spray the home button with an Electronic cleaner.

Next time use tissues :p

Yeah reboot, upgrade or take in for repair.

Rofl, OP do not do this.

My iPhone 4 started doing that, upgrade to iOS 5 sorted it out.

Reboot wont work, I'm not making a joke, I'm quite sure OP has tried it already, update wont do either, been there before.

Flex the edges of the iPad to sort it out. This is what helped me, and the home button never gave me a problem afterwards.

I think I've isolated my problem at least. My home button stopped working last night and i got really frustrated. After a while of relentlessly pressing the button i sat there defeated. The iPad was in landscape orientation and i had my palms around the sides, with my thumbs hovering over the screen. I squeezed inwards and with my thumb, presssed the home button at the same time. Lo and behold, the iPad responded.

I thought this might be a fluke, but it has responded every time.

I'm going to experiment with warm and cold ipad temp to see if it's expansion or contraction related

Will keep you posted.

Dont judge my post soley on my questionable sex life, I am a gadget freak after-all.

in my experience glass doesnt like to flex :p

I'd return it. In the meantime get comfortable with using gestures particularly the five finger pinch to return to the home screen and the four finger swipe (up) to get to the task bar.

Clean forgot about the 4-finger-up for the task bar, thanks for the reminder.... Having said that - it's not the most comfortable swipe, but beggars...choosers etc.

I've read about all of the solutions above - think I'm going to take my time before doing anything too drastic. At the risk of sounding like a complete moron, I think heat (and possible expansion might be to blame... Working in Stellenbosch in an un-airconditioned office, and living in Paarl - where having an aircon hasn't helped during the last heatwave, means that the Ipad has been running real hot of late...

Regarding taking it back in - purchased it through FNB, so doubt it would be a simple case of returning it for a new one...
