Doesn’t remove from the fact that Google apps are generally very poorly designed in UI on the iOS devices.
Eventually you'll stop expecting it to be an Android device and realise it basically does the same things, just differently.
And by differently I mean better.
here's hoping.I do hear you though, it's a change from android and it'll take a while to adapt.
Other Apple users also asking for a back button so it's not just me.
