iPad 2 wont boot, wont charge and cant DFU

Hi All,

So my mothers iPad is giving issues.

It has done it before where it wouldn't charge but a reset by holding home and the power button sorted it out, apparently it is a common software problem.

It is now doing it again, problem this time is that it is flat, and thus wont turn on to let me reset, any ideas before i send it in?

Does it not charge at all? If u leave it plugged in say for an hour and try again?
 
Could be dust/dirt on the dock connector, or a faulty cable, or a faulty charger...

Try blowing on the dock connector, or a different cable, or a different charger...

nope you can leave it on charge over night, no effect

tried different charger, doubt it is dust etc but will check, last time straight after the reset it worked sharp again
 
Quite interesting to see that the simpler something gets, the more difficult it is to resolve any issue(s) you get with that device...

Maybe take it in for an Apple rep to look at?
 
I've seen this issue on a 3GS before. Had no idea what the issue was or how to resolve it. Combination of blowing and resetting eventually resuscitated the thing but it was very much hit and miss...

Bear in mind if the battery is completely flat it would need at least 4-5 minutes of solid charging before a reset would even be possible.

Something else to try is the following:

Connect the pad to a pc, open iTunes, then put it into DFU mode by doing the following:

Hold sleep button and count to 3

Continue holding sleep button and hold home button and count to 10

Release sleep button but continue holding home button and wait for iTunes to acknowledge a device connected in recovery mode, could be a 5 sec wait, could be a 30 sec wait.

It's a long shot but that works for me and DFU mode.

Achieving DFU mode is sometimes a tricky process. We think we have it but we sometimes don't. Using the above method you will achieve DFU mode 9/10 times...

yeah it seems i am going to have to, i hope for her they don't hold it long.

if only it had a removable battery i could use mine it it :p

i have left it on charge for hours.

tried DFU last night several times and nothing

if i press or hold the power button all i get is the flat battery indicator.

Aint that the truth. Seldom a day goes by where I'm not troubleshooting something. Surrounded by tech and gadgets there is always something that is working slightly differently today to how it did yesterday. Nature of tech and human interaction. Quite irritating sometimes

Sounds like it isn't making a clean contact, all it takes is dirt on 1 of the dock connectors (19 and 20 are the ones required for charging). Try checking and/or cleaning them...

Excellent. Connected to yours it worked perfectly so safe to assume the charger is not at fault. Very possible that it's the dock connector then.

if only she had reset it when she called me and i told her then we likely wouldnt be in this situation after the battery died :(

Those lot are useless. Honestly I think sand_man and fixit know more about iDevices than any of those monkeys working in the apple stores. Hell I think I know more than those monkeys.

One of them tried to tell me that a digitizer fault on a 3gs bought in the eu was caused because I updated it in South Africa. Would hear differently no matter what I tried. He said he's been on training, bla bla.. So I asked him if they taught him how to use google on his "training". Had the digitizer replaced and the phone works perfectly.
 
This has happened to me as well.. I used redsnow to fix the problem..
