Ok, So why do i not have Wifi Hotspot "tethering" on my new Ipad when it was said to be one of the new main features?

I have it on my Vodacom Iphone ... on my Vodacom BB9900, but not on my Vodacom Ipad3?

Anyone have the tethering feature on the new Ipad?

Thanks

Come to think of it, I just checked mine and don't have that feature either, searching the Apple support forum, it seems to be a carrier feature, so if the ISP not support it, that feature won't appear? Will carry on researching.

Just got off the phone with Vodacom Data Customer support... no help... they insist there's nothing they can do on their side...
It will probably take a while for them to comprehend the ball is in their hands, they'll realise they stand to make more money, and they'll run with it. Be patient.

While that's true bwana, isn't the Vodacom rep on this site a high level executive? Can't s/he do something about it?

Is yours just the Wifi model ?

Is your model just have Wifi or does it have wifi and 3G/4G ?
Because the tearthering, on all apple devices (i know because i've had all the iphones) is ONLY to share the 3G/4G (i.e. cellular connection) - its NOT to re-share the wifi connection - and it has never been so

therefore if you have the Wifi only model then you will never have this feature, and nor will anyone else

I'm confused. So you can't take the connection from your existing wifi modem/router and create a second hotspot at the same locale. Why would anyone ever want to do this? You can surely just connect to the original wifi router?

it is the wifi + 3g version .....

suppose ill wait untill 5.1.1 is jailbroken and ill install Mifi ....

I'm currently with VC but will change to the first provider that offers tethering on the ipad3. I have good 3G signal on all networks at home. On the 8ta forum it looks like they are looking into it quite seriously. Hope it happens soon.

Picked my iPad 3 in the US last month and had the Internet Tethering working perfectly fine over there (AT&T) - came back home and popped in the MTN micro sim and still had the settings (as well as two APN settings, one for normal data and and for Hotspot), both blank though. The first time I synced (cable) with my mac, the carrier settings was updated and the tethering settings (as well as the second APN) vanished in thin air. So definitely a Carrier enabled (disabled??) thing.

I jailbroke and got pdanet, only way to get tethering on a new iPad at the moment.

So, are any of the local operators supporting tethering yet?

I can confirm it works on Cell C, really interested to know about 8ta.
So far nothing but if you have any suggestions on what I can do to tempt it into working . . . :)

OK well for Cell C this worked:
I just put the APN "Internet" into both fields under Settings -> Mobile Data -> APN Settings, then turned on Personal Hotspot under Settings -> General -> Network
