iPad 3G from America

I am interested in buying an iPad 2 but not from SA because I don't feel like getting ripped off. So if a purchase a 3G iPad from the US will I be able to open a contract with a South Africa carrier for the 3G..

I believe that the AT&T iPad2's are unlocked, and will work in SA - at least that is what one of the assistants in a California I store told me a few days ago.

Correct, iPad2's are NOT network locked. If a USA model just make sure to get the AT&T one and NOT NOT NOT the Verizon one

Yes you have to choose iPad 3G AT&T version since it uses GSM network. Verizon uses CDMA which is only compatible in some countries (Korea?)
