iPad alternatives

I must say the Notion Ink Adam is anything but slow... to be fair the stock software has some work left to be done and I'm not a fan of their customisations but the 3rd party ROMs are excellent, some scoring over 3000 on Quadrant. I had a look at the Nook in the states a couple of months ago and it was ridiculously slow, whereas the stock Adam is much quicker than my galaxy tab.

My main concern was the customer service with an international order and as murphy would have it I had a LCD problem with my unit. It took a while to chase the support team but eventually they paid for the shipment back to them and my replacement unit is waiting for delivery tomorrow so all in all no complaints there.

I bough the Pixel Qi and a LCD version to compare the difference so if anyone is interested I've got one to sell, not sure which one yet tho ;-)

Can someone tell what they actually use their tablet for? After at least owning it for three months. I am genuinely interested because most mates of mine have sold theirs after a while because they ended up just using it for games and the occasional e-mail and eventually for nothing at all.

I genuinely struggle to understand that there can be tech savvy people out there who would sell an iPad because they couldn't find enough to do on it. I use mine all the time and hardly use my laptop anymore, and I don't play games on it (my kids do yes). In my house Kindle is in permanent demand so the Kindle floats around and I use my iPad. Penultimate is used daily, and I discovered this app to be a great way to help my kids with homework (electronic whiteboard at home and at work, and all the stuff I want to keep I can). Internet and e-mail is obviously a biggie. And then there is Drifta ...

@BeVonk, the only use I can really see that I have for it is to check and reply to e-mails and read papers. Both of these functions can be accomplished better by a good smartphone and a laptop. I've also heard from people that reading papers on the ipad can be tiring on the eye and the Kindle is much better suited for this purpose. The Kindle falls short though when one has colour figures in a paper.

Exactly what I thought before I eventually bought an iPad. Haven't used my netbook since then - and mostly only use the pc for PS editing and general photo management.

RSS feeds, pdf's, articles, websites are all completely PITA on the Kindle. Books are brilliant though.

That is exactly why I cant wait for my Asus Eee Pad transformer, its a Netbook that can be used as a tablet.

It looks pretty neat, I must say. Have you ordered one?

I am waiting for one in SA :(

Want it to be warranty covered. I did send out requests to prophecy and so on to confirm stock availability. Nothing back yet

Yeah for me it's a fight between a HP Touchpad and an Asus Eee Pad Transformer - Touchpad for WebOS & 4:3 screen, and the Asus for the included keyboard, 2nd battery, USB slots and card reader...

Flying to Dubai on the 17th of May, so will let youse know what I went for - if the Touchpad is even out by then... Is Middle May classified as summer in the USA/northern hemisphere?

Just Ordered my Asus Eee Pad Transformer
R5500 for tablet and R1700 for Keyboard
Will have it by next week, will give updates as soon as I get it :)

Update:Noooooo my supplier just told me its going to take another 2 weeks :(
