SA VAT is 14%. :o

Oh, and that cover, while expensive, is worth every penny.

14% ?? I didn't know that. I thought it was 16-18%. :o In which case we can all rejoice that it is not on the scale that it is in Europe (and the Wayne's World profit is even more obscene)!

At R999, the Ipad cover is not worth every penny.

Fortunately, I got one very similar to it while I was in London (the Apple cover was sold out) however the cover is textured, like suede, and picks up all the dust & dirt. I just need the cheap and nasty plastic cover, from Apple, but at around R400 max!

It just wipes off, good as new. What I like about it is that I can use it in many ways depending on what I'm doing. If I'm watching video or using it as an external display it's landscape on it's side, for reading or typing it's lying down at an angle . . . that's why I think it's a necessity.

EDIT - wantitall sells it for r600.
 
Yup at £31 its a necessary evil. The Ipad is just too slippery smooth!

I am leaning towards Wantitall/BidorBuy/Gumtree - where doubtless it will be more than in London but not at the greedy level of Wayne's World, Cresta! :mad:

My cover does the same as yours (and the Apple) except for being covered in a 'suede' type fabric, however the edge along the spine is starting to work loose, which you notice when its propped at the typing angle. So, I'm planning ahead & trying to source the cheapest original Apple cover!
 
My grandpa got an iPad. He's made several covers for it himself. Then again, he's really handy with DIY stuff.
 
Than three months ago, many Apple accessories partner has got iPad 2 model, but Apple has retained its internal architecture, especially for the Smart Cover of this design, until March 2 was only displayed, Smart Cover is almost seamless with the iPad 2, especially the opening and closing Sleep Smart Cover activation function, which is love and hate for Apple ipad cases manufacturers, Apple is the god of love, give them to create a huge market, and hate , Apple markets the best parts into their own pocket, leaving some of the rougher edges to the remaining companies.
 
The Otterbox Defender (not the Commuter) best for all round protection I have 2 on my 2 ipads with the bevelled front it protects the screen from
accidental fall breakage the screen cover also acts as a viewing frame.

Guys, if you have any contacts in Australia please also check out this site. Gecko are made in Australia. I bought one whilst there a couple of weeks ago and are really good value for money. Mine is like a book folder and cost AUS$ 59 (x7.5 to convert to Rands). They also have the same article but it comes with a removable bluetooth keyboard - really neat but at AUS$99.
The Apple cover (magnetic) sells for AUS$ 45. So yes we are being ripped off on accessories.
BTW. There is only about a R500 difference buying the iPad2 64gb 3G in Australia. So the prices here are not too bad considering Core is an importer. iTunes Australia also does not offer the same variety of songs and apps as the USA store, as well as being more expensive. But having family there I will use that store in future as coupons are easy for me to get at retail value.

This for iPad 1 or 2? I am looking for a leather cover that makes it look like a diary almost for 1. Please post pics.
