iPad mini may launch in October

2,048 x 1,536 on a 7.85" screen? Impressive.

Not going to happen. At least not for the $200 price range that this article is touting. I'm calling this one out. IF the iPad Mini arrives, it will most likely use the same 1024 res as the ipad1 and 2 in order to enable Apple to scale production most easily. And that resolution at 7" is actually quite adequate I've found.

What ever happened to the a 9.7" with a 1:33 aspect ration being the best of the millions of options tried?

I'm also very doubtful. Guessing it will have the same ppi though, which is probably closer to 1080p.

There was an article somewhere with some mathematical evidence for why it would be most reasonable for them to use the same resolution as the original iPad. Something to do with the downscaling of the dimensions and production lines. Honestly if it was going to be as cut-rate as this article suggests, which I am already highly sceptical of, they would want to go the way of refitting factory stock. Plus... it gives them somewhere to go in future, which Apple always loves to do.

Yeah seems very unlikely, although a small ipad for under R2000 should sell like hotcakes, theres no denying that Apple makes the better tablets only the asus transformer prime 700 can compete but is mostly not as available and also more expensive.

Personally though i'm waiting for 10-14inch hybrids with decent graphics before I move over from my Smart phone/laptop combo.

Didn't Steve Jobs say "over my dead body" when asked if he'd make a smaller tablet?

EDIT: Ah, he said "7-Inch Tablets Are ‘Dead on Arrival’"

My Bad

He also said this :

There are clear limits of how close you can physically place elements on a touch screen before users cannot reliably tap, flick or pinch them. This is one of the key reasons we think the 10-inch screen size is the minimum size required to create great tablet apps," he said

Item no .3 on my list of things to ignore.. Any headline that ends in a question mark.

Apple launching a mini ipad at the same time as they launch their flagship iPhone? I don't see this happening.

I for one think this would be a great idea, clearly Apple have lost ground with all things iPod as most now prefer smartphones.

So to cover the gap left by the decline in sales of the iPod Touch I think this would be a wonderful additional to its mobile range.

I dont get what everybody's issues is with size of the devices, after all no one is forcing you to buy something.
If I had my way there would be 3.7" + 4.3" + 5" + 7" + 10" +13"

I mean we don't live in a one size fits all world, if that was the case we all would be driving Smart cars and use 37" TV's.
Get the size you like and ignore the rest...

No worries, doesn't mean I can't enjoy the humor behind the large phones ;)

Why stop at 13", I have a 21" cintiq and can imagine the same size tablet with the top end Wacom pen sensor (not the crap on the Galaxy note) being very appealing to graphic artists + designers (I.e. untethered as opposed to the current cintiqs)
