ipad no angry birds

Just because you could do some dubious things with your ipad once it is jailbroken it does not automagically mean you are guilty of eg. fraud/copyright infringement/whatnot.

I have no up to date info on whats available on the unofficial repositories. Last I saw the marketplace(s) are quite extensive.

But most of the games are not available unofficially. So you won't get these apps if you jailbreak. To get the same apps, you have to pirate.

Of course there are other games and apps, but nowhere near as many and not the same ones as on the original store.

Agreed. If Apple gave a solitary damn about this market that FPB problem would be negotiated away. We might not get all quarter million (or whatever) games, but we could at least get the known big sellers.

Sorry. I just don't see a reason why the FPB should decide for us what we as competent adults may or may not view. By extension this means the FPB could force customs to confiscate all DVDs/CDs/games/etc we import. They could also force ISPs to filter our internet because 99.999% of the internet is not FPB rated. Shops like TakeALot and WantItAll are also breaking the FPB rules by importing unrated editions of movies or games. I just don't see a justification for any of this. iTunes already has a strong anti-porn/anti-defamation protection built in. Everything is rated. FPB should cave in and admit the rating system is OK or go the way of the dodo.

I also don't see why the Entertainment category is excluded from FPB rating. A child could easily view that category. Sorry. The whole thing is irrational nonsense.

They have done exactly this plenty of times already. Stuff get seized by Customs by 'order' of the FPB all the time as they have some "memorandum of understanding" or an agreement with them afaik. Although I have not been following the latest happenings with regards to this for quite some time.

Haven't had any stuff seized myself though. But I hope you realize how tyrannical that is. Stuff like that should be abolished. This FPB should be scrapped. That's all. After all we are in charge, not anyone else. Stuff like this only happens because people don't complain and ask their MPs to vote this away.

Sure it is crazy. No doubt about it. Thing is we do not have the stats about what/when/how much stuff gets seized by customs due to 3rd party pressure. I would guess in most of those cases the poor SAPO gets the blame.

People do complain. With the last large-scale seizing, that I know of, in 2009 (via pressure from SAFACT) people went crazy and complained all over about packages not arriving from shopto.net. It was only later revealed that customs suspected pirated goods and they redirected the packages for 'verification' by SAFACT before releasing the packages to customers.

I can only hope that should the FPB ever pull off something dauntingly stupid that we the people will gather and give them the big proverbial middle finger. Unfortunately we are not privy to what (non)agreements exist between eg. apple and the FPB so it will never be easy task blame the FPB directly for anything.
