iPad or Samsung Galaxy 10.1

Hi guys

Quick question, I've gone through a couple of videos on YouTube and am looking at buying a tablet.

I've decided on the Galaxy 10.1 as opposed to the iPad. Reason is that I have a Blackberry and iPhone as mobile phones, and want the tablet to be an android device to be diverse, & I also hate Apple's express reliance on iTunes.

Am I making the correct decision?

I too want to get my hands on the galaxy tab 10.1 ...
As to when this tab will arrive in SA i have no idea ...
Delays delays...
Only next month sometime hopefully.. ( And that's only the wifi version ) so who knows when the 3G one's are arriving...
As from what i've read it's a pretty good tab...
Only down side is expandable memory... ( No micro SD card slot )

Sounds good to me, I am in the same boat.
 
I went for an Asus transformer for that exact reason, I have an iPhone, fiance has an iPad1 and I wanted to try Android. I like iOS (once Jailbroken of course) but am not a fanboi of any specific OS so, like you, wanted to diversify a bit.

So far I am really enjoying my eee pad, running Android 3.1, have a couple of spps downloaded, figured out the movie and media thing, etc. Been reading a bit about Rooting but to be honest it looks a lot more complicated than jailbreaking an iDevice and I haven't quite found any specific advantages to having it rooted other than some apps you can buy require access to Root.

Anyway, I'll give the eee Pad Transformer another vote, it's main advantage that no other tab ha is that if you want to there is a keyboard doc available that pretty much turns it into a notebook :)
 
The galaxy tab 10.1v (the 1080p, 8mp camera, no micro sd card) is already available in south africa (my father got one from a vodashop in the grove - extremely overpriced at R8300, wish he hadnt wasted his money)
The galaxy tab 10.1 (the 720p, 3mp camera, 2mm thinner, with micro sd card - somehow this is an "upgrade" to the 10.1v) isnt though

They are very close in terms of what they can do.
It is really whether you're happy to be locked in brand Apple. I am not... my device... my rules.. simple as that.
Others might seek the simple plug and pay approach... it offers a sense of comfort, very sandboxie, very clicky. It really does belong to the social networked crowd. I'm not the type.

I understand the v in 10.1v represents vodaphone and its their specific build.
 
Thanks Guys... I appreciate the input. In gonna go have a look at the Acer tablet... It really looks good, I must admit, just haven't tested it in depth.

I'm not that major on apps. All I do mostly is tweet, email and surf the web. So any good tablet will do, Apple's just a pain cos you have to iTunes everything.

I have the Acer Tablet. It's great in that it has SD card support and a fully working USB port.
I think the ASUS Transformer would be a better choice as it's popular with the hacking community (unlocked bootloader, and high sales everywhere). You might like the keyboard dock.
 
What can I say, I'm cheap. I'd get the ipad for the apps alone. :)

If you want 3G you can wait for one Asus Eee Pad 3G (Available in August)

Well if you cheap you should have gone for Android then?
Eee pad has included for free Office suite(Polaris Office), Remote Desktop(http://www.splashtop.com/)
Included File manager with windows networking, Video editing, Zinio reader also other apps that is installed running out of the box is Kindle, MyLibrary book store with full ePub support. I can go on and on but you get my drift :)

It is also known that Android apps are mostly free with ad support and you can pay to remove adds example Angry Birds

I got the iPad. I have an android phone and love it but android honeycomb can't beat the smoothness which the iPad runs at. Very seamless experience.

Personal preference though.

plus, was not a fan of the big light bleed on the asus. The iAd has light bleed but it is very very minimal. All tablets seem to have it to some extent.

No, because much like the OP I also had an iPhone first and a whole slew of applications that I could also use on the iPad. ;)

Won't lie but general UI is not as smooth as the iPad, but then the iPad doesn't have a UI, its more like a application list with a task switcher :)

As for the light bleed I very much believe that was a problem with the 1st batch, much the same as the iPad 2 ones as well. Did not hear any complaints yet from the ones SA got so far.

The stores are in actual fact very similar, all major and important apps are available on both stores. A lot of the apps available for iPad are of no use for the Android tablet because the functionality is built in natively.

The Android market is the fastest growing.

Android 3.1 handles 2.x apps much better than the iPad handles iPhone apps.

The Galaxy 10.1 will almost certainly upgraded to the next Android. The next version of Android (Icecream Sandwich) will run on both Smartphones and Tablets and should be released this year still. This means it will be much easier for developers to target and develop for both cellphone and tablet markets and you will see a very large increase in Android tablet apps leaving the iPad app market behind.

Yeah I guess. Still way prefer the App store personally.

Yeah. I would never run an iPhone app on an iPad. Luckily I never have to!

Sure but so will the iPad be upgraded to iOS 5 - it's not standing still! It's already very easy to develop for both iPad and iPhone. I shall be watching both markets with great interest.
