Ok, so for most of us the hype and hysteria surrounding the iPhone 4 has subsided and we have carried on with our normal lives...

My question is, when are we gonna get the iPad ??

I have a Data contract that is due for an upgrade and i would love to get the iPad on it.. However i would like to upgrade the contract before christmas so that i have a new toy for the holidays...

Do anyone have any inside news on this as no-one that i know has heard anything...

i got mine from switzerland .... came in two weeks ..... paid 7000 for a 3g & wifi model 32 gb ,IMHO i wont bet on apple releasing it in SA

On the Vodacom side, I see the stock code has been loaded onto our Vodashop dealer web order system, however, they are not saying when it will be here, instead our orders go onto backorder. Should be imminent I would think, as we have pricing for purchase, not for contract/upgrade deals yet though.

well do share that pricing, some of us could use a good laugh

Quite pricey... the 64GB with 3G will most likely retail cash at around R12999 and the 32GB with 3G about R1000 less. Although I did see just the wifi version retailing online locally for around R12000, so maybe not so bad after all. Contract/upgrade pricing should be ok though as that doesn't include store markups and vat. Also Vodacom will most likely push the product on contract/upgrade over the festive season. Best to wait for the deals to be released by Vodacom.

I heard that they were not being imported via Vodacom but by Core and that the ones on the VC system were actually bought locally and will only be for sale via the duty free stores....

What really gets to me is that they are freely available in Namibia for the past 2 months and we still have nothing...

lmao , apple thinks namibia are more advanced than SA

ipad

Bought mine September on ebay 64 gig wi-fi paid abought R800 duty total cost around R7,000 hell paying higher prices.

It's my bet it will be like the 1st generation iPhone - they won't bring it here. The factories simply cannot make them fast enough. We will probably get the 2nd generation iPad, but that might take some time also - because there will be a new demand for the iPad 2. If I were you, try and get it elsewhere, just not one of these local rip-offs. Try and get one in from overseas.

I get that based on the 1st Gen iPhone we shouldnt get the first Gen iPad... however what i dont get is why they would ship them all the way to Namibia and not to South Africa... Surely we have a higher demand and interest in the product that Namibia ??

Not sure how the shipping for Apple works but why not just put another 10 000 units on a plan with the iPhones that they are sending us anyway ?? They have their agreements in place with Vodacom and Core for other apple related products and surely it should just be as simple as adding us to the iPad stock list for X amount of units ??

Or am i missing something ???

We also have numerous people on this forum using VC micro sims in their iPads bought overseas so the network can clearly handle it... not like we need to setup seperate VPNs or Carrier settings......

I bought my iPad in Amsterdam this year ... paid R5200 for a iPad 16gb Wifi + 3G . Plus i got my tax back which was around R600 so basically i paid R4600

I'm assuming you also avoided paying the applicable tax/duties when you returned to SA (no judgement, just curiosity).

that is exactly what i did .... i put the ipad deep in my case. I just had duty free bags from Amsterdam and Dubai in my hands and the lady said its fine go ahead .... after she checked my bags in my hand. So i avoided paying duties .
