I'm going to be setting up my ipad tonight - brand new and shiny... it's in the box at home. :D
I'm busy reading online about how the setup is and stuff.
In the beginning part, one of the people say:

Step 1: Choose your language and region. You’ll then be asked to to enable or disable a feature called Location Services. Enable it and continue. You want Location Services turned on so apps can access your iPad’s GPS and provide you location-based information.

I setup a US itunes accounts to download from the app store... if I disable the GPS location stuff and say my location is 'South Africa' will it affect my app downloads and using my US itunes account? or can i do that?

This may sound like a dumb Q but this is my first iDevice and I know about all their little location annoyances.

Location Services and/or actual location are irrelevant to your iTunes account currency.

You don't need to read up anything on the setup.

Pop your iTunes account details in and off you go, all questions asked by the wizard are self-explanatory and there's no need to panic about any of them.

Welcome to iOS.

What are you talking about?

Aaah, okay thank you so much! In terms of the location stuff, I was referring to the itunes account and how everything is limited in SA. I should have just mentioned that instead of making it seem like there were many issues :p

@ OP What model did you get?

iPad 3 with wifi and 3G/4G (whichever it has)

Just keep repeating to yourself "I am an American who is setting up this iPad while on an overseas holiday, I mean vacation. Nuffin' unusual 'bout that, is there, buddy?"

Yeah use the Exchange setup for GMail and skip the built-in crap.

Then people's birthdays stored on your Google Contacts will also magically appear in your Calendar.
