Not sure where to post this?

Would you get an iPad or a Blackpad (Blackberry version soon to be announced).

Blackpad will probably have a unlimited data-plan like the blackberry's
My hesitation with the iPad is the data won't be free.
My hesitation with the Blackpad is lack of apps.

Your views?

iPad without a doubt! The reason being is that such tablet devices are intended for web surfing, email and ebook reading (and games if ure so inclined). Of those 4 options, ipad wins hands down on 3 - with the odd one out being email. Blackberry does offer a fantastic push email service. However, everything on a blackberry is HEAVILY compressed making websurfing very crappy and slow. Yes it costs only R50, but i still dont think its worth it. The blackberry store here is really bad for games - there really is nothing worth dloading whereas the ipad has some brilliant games! The Amazon Kindle app and the iBooks app are both available on the ipad which are proven to be successful whilst there is nothing on the blackberry yet and no official ebook store announced yet.

Lastly, from my experience of blackberry phones, they are good for 1 sort of person only - and that is the business user who is only worried about business and nothing else. iPad at least takes consideration of the casual user and the business user.

Googling the blackpad now as I didnt know about it. BB will have to step up the apps they have available, but only for casual users. I need something like the ipad for work but after playing with mail and calendar I realized I'm handicapped without BES.

So give me push mail and BES services on a pad and ill buy it before you can say no officer my phone is full of sensitive data please leave me alone.

There are quite a few pad type devices being talked about (do a search at www.engadget.com). I think iPad and Blackpad will be leaders becasue iPad has the apps but Blackpad will most likely have the unlimited data at a fixed cost option.

I seems they want the blackpad to piggyback off your blackberry as it wont have 3G. Only reason I could see for this is you cannot have more than one device connected to a BES profile, if that is even the case. Info I found is pure speculation so well have to wait and see

Blackpad = does not exist yet and everything is pure speculation
Ipad = already going through 2nd/3rd iterations

Why are you asking this? You can't compare an existing product with one that does not exist.

And finally, using the Blackberry PHONES to "judge" how good the Blackpad may be is even more silly.

We use brands to judge quality all the time, I think its quite reasonable to expect similar features and quality from a similar product. The Ipad is not that different from the Iphone.

It is speculation yes, but RIM is definitely buying bigger LCD's and they have a contract with a company that confirmed they manufacture "tablets" but declined to say for who. RIM also bought QNX, an OS aimed at embedded systems that was designed with low processing power requirements.

Neither. I have a smartphone, now why would I want a tablet that can't do anything more than my Android phone? I don't see the point in these tablets that run mobile phone operating systems
If i get a tablet I want a proper OS on it such as Windows or a Linux distro like Ubuntu so it can function like a laptop but without the bulk. Then it would be useful for my work and can run the kind of advanced programs that wouldn't be made for a mobile OS and take advantage of the screen space.
Firefox, Open Office, Winamp/Foobar or the Windows 7 equivalents like MS Office and Windows Media Player. And the programmers can do their coding.

Anyway, there are also some good Android tablets on the way like the Samsung Galaxy Tab. There's a few available too but I don't know if any good ones are out with a decent resolution yet.

Maddmatt, the tablets will evolve very quickly over the next few years and become true laptop replacements. What we see now is the first generation. Personally, I'm very keen on getting my hands on a pad. A colleague of mine uses her iPad 3G to take notes, read mail and access the internet in meetings ... very very cool ... much better than using a laptop.

From BB Playbook Website:

* Pair BlackBerry® PlayBook with a BlackBerry smartphone* via secure Bluetooth® connection for full access to:
* o Push technology
o Email, calendar, BBM™, tasks, documents and more
o BlackBerry security and data efficiency

3G access via existing BlackBerry smartphone service plan

Blackpad will probably have a unlimited data-plan like the blackberry's

The Playbook doesn't have 3G. It will allow for tethering with your BB, though. I don't know if this will count towards your data-plan, though.

Anyway, we'll wait and see how much this thing is going to cost. That's going to be the real determining factor.

Anything more than an iPad and it will fail.

The fact that it supports flash 10.1 is a major trump card over the iPad for me in itself.

Secondly with it supporting Adobe Mobile Air, Open GL and Java while also being POSIX compliant, it definitely means that this platform has what it takes to take on apple in the app space from an architectural point of view.

This device wipes the floor with the current iPad.
