iPad3 - Need convincing

It is dead easy for Apple to locate devices and compare registered addresses. SARS may want that. With a fake account one imports stuff without paying duties and local taxes.

Look buying apps on Android is so much easier than buying apps on iTunes in this country; Google really has that aspect down pat and they can be commended for it.

A major issue for me is the fake US iTunes accounts to get full value. It bothers me to lie to get what I should be getting (especially considering the price tag). One day someone might just feel the need to go after people in SA with such accounts and prosecute them for fraud or something ... or Apple is forced to terminate such accounts by our Gov or an organisation. SARS comes to mind ... lost tax revenue.

This thing may come back to bite Apple users big time.

Ja, I will be to afraid to go to sleep at night, with fear that the FBI will bash down my door and arrest me in conjuction with identity theft or sum such.

"It just work.".......not in South Africa. I was laso plagued by a friend to change to Apple, but watching him the last couple of years and reading this threat, no thanks.
Too much hurdles to get by. And a great quality screen doesn't concern me that much.

It doesn't? Man... I wish I was you. I can't use anything else since I mucked about on the iPad3 screen. It's spectacular. Worth every frustration and then some.

I haven't used my US account in months - even though it's not fake and I'm perfectly entitled to have one. Still, if you look at the reason why people favour out of country accounts you can rest much of that blame on SA and not Apple. They're playing by the rules they're required to.

That it might come back to bite SA Apple user is is FUD, plain and simple.

The account itself may be harmless, but what I've seen isn't. Using a online site or app to generate a fake address and fake CC info, that borders on espionage....and the FBI and CIA will be all over that. :D

I think the other thing that has not been mentioned is that when you do have a US iTunes account it is not only the app selection that is improved but also the availability of music, movies and tv shows. I can't even use my Google Music account on my phone because of country restrictions.

Small things amuses .....ahh, I'll just leave it at that

Yeah, right.

It's easy to dismiss until you've spent time using one and then try and go back.

Okay... Back on track :)

The Good

1. Cydia is a must if you want to fiddle a lot. I don't just use apps. I love to mess around with stuff and try things. Awesome app and with the repos provided in this thread - lots to do.

2. iCloud was something I scoffed at when released. The first thing that struck me was going from the iPad 2 on Thu to the 3 on Fri. Games I was playing that supported iCloud auto save/restore had my progress restored. All built in and just worked. That is awesome.
There are equivalents on Android via 3rd party apps but I found them to be a bit clunky and not work as smooth. Hopefully Elimentals has something to offer here. Would love this functionality between my Android devices and as smooth and seamless as iCloud.

3. Quite a few more A grade games on AppStore vs Play Store. Nice!

4. iPad is very smooth. Using the interface is slick. Not going to compare this to any of my Android devices cause none of my tabs are as highly specc'd as my iPad 3. Galaxy Tab 10.1 with JellyBean is pretty darned close though.

5. I love Zinio on my tablets. Have migrated all my hardcopy subscriptions to Zinio over the years. Zinio on the iPad 3 screen is soooooo sexy.

6. Movies. Look awesome. Nuff said.

7. Chrome was released on iOS. Probably the very first app I downloaded. Safari blows.

The Bad

1. No paid SA Games without a hack or piracy. This irked me badly yesterday but at peace with it now after pointers from some very helpful peeps here. I did know about this but it still got to me when I actually experienced the limitation. I am now at peace with it.
When I am laying in bed playing and want to buy a game only to find I need to go buy another voucher this issue may hit again. I like simplicity.

2. No swype. Arg. This keyboard drives me nuts. Tap tap tap... Taking forever to punch out this post.

3. Lack of customization. This does grid me. At least thanks to some peeps here it is not as bad as yesterday. Still want more though.
And yep, widgets are very important to me. Why after 5 years Apple or a 3rd party has still not provided this is beyond me.

4. Safari blows :)

Not really much that grinds me at the mo. I can handle the few negative points and the positive starting to really shine through.

Please keep the tips coming through peeps. They are really helpful.

Guys, no matter how you cut this ... fraud is fraud. Going Apple in SA forces one to commit fraud and sidestep SARS regulations to get games ... what most iPads are used for. Not Apple's fault. At some point this thing is going to get attention and the hunt will start. One of the key reasons I changed to Android. Buying vouchers is a bloody pain anyway.

Good, good, good. Android it is for you then.

Bevop and Rocksteady, Beef stew, Bevop a luma a whap bam doom, Bieber...

I can go on.

Small things amuses .....ahh, I'll just leave it at that

It's a tablet; by definition one massive screen. And you don't care about the quality of it?

Worried about a US iTunes account? Whaahahahaha...breath...whahahahahahah.

True but you do seem to be acknowledging that research into a product is still fundamental. What I don't understand is why you thought the user experience would be so different from your previous experience with the iPad2 - did you forget that it didn't have widgets either?

Yes, research is fundamental. But it cannot end there.

Read earlier in the thread. I never bought the second iPad 2 with the intention of keeping it. I just kind of ended up with an iPad 3. All explained earlier.

On the widget side... I was really hoping there was a 3rd party means of getting them. Admitedly, I never researched the jail breaking side of things. When rooting on Android a whole world opens to you. Just assumed that to be the same with iOS JB - and to a large degree it does. Just still now widgets.

In Cydia, install SwipeSelection. Not a Swype replacement completely but makes editing text 100 times easier.

Can you swype on Android tabs? I got told on my KF that it wouldn't install. Typing on glass is fail anyway
