iPad3 - Need convincing

You first need to select a free app before registering(make sure you are signed out).
Once you get to the payment option just tick the "none" option

What I do wonder about is how Google does it. I have noticed that a lot of apps in the Play Store are cheaper than the same app in the App Store, and this with duties and taxes factored in. What is Apple not agreeing with that Google happily agrees with?

Google's music, movies and books are also not available here. Games from the major publishers on Android is a recent development here. Google also uses another rights model where the legal responsibility lies with the developer, not Google.

I recently had dealings with Kobo. Wanted to get them to sell their readers to us. They told me it is hell to get the rights to do so in SA (got the same answer from Sony). Amazon put a massive effort in to get theirs approved.

You quite clued up dude. Thanks for the info. :)

Coming right there Mike?

Dude... Sigh.... Finally. What a freaking mission.

I tried to register on the pad and could not find an option for no payment option. Vis selected by default.

So I went back to the PC. Selected the store and checked the flag. Now it is on USA. WTF!!!!
Anyway, did not question it. Proceeded to select a free app and go through the process. Sorted.
Now I need a voucher. Went to iEverything and selected a $25 voucher. Complete registration, enter CC and after submitting am presented with Money Bookers. WTF!!!! I specifically selected Master Card and entered info.
I started the procedure over and no matter what, only payment option now was Money Bookers. Nothing else.

I ended up getting my voucher at Maximus. No mess. No fuss.

What a pain I tell you.

Thanks to the peeps that had patience with me here and got me through this :)

I genuinely would like MyBroadband journos to a get legal opinion from a reliable company about the legal risks associated with fake US iTunes registrations and what it could mean for SA users forced to go that route. Who's the major blockage that prevents us from enjoying what even Kenia gets to enjoy.

As it stands Apple must block manipulated accounts brought under their attention. Same goes for Amazon and other companies dealing with the sale of music, books, games, software, etc.

Yeah, that intial setup can be a bit of schlep but the hard part is now permanently out of the way... Until, of course, the FBI and CIA come knocking at your door (the South African one, not the US one).... :p

Enjoy Mike! Would love to hear your opinion in a week's time having had proper time with the iPad.

Electronic Arts was one of the biggies that only recently stated selling games in the local Android store.

Thanks dude. Will def report back.

Guys, please don't stop the helpful hints and tips. You successfully convinced me to not immediately sell this new toy off again and would love to hear about anything else that can improve the experience.

I am going to hold onto the iPad I think. I don't however see it replacing my Galaxy Tab in the near future but you never know. ;)

Next on the list are potentially a Galaxy S3 and definitely a Galaxy Note 2 and Nexus 7. Man... Got to love toys :)
I am watching the leaks on the iPhone 5. If I tend to start enjoying iOS and the iPhone 5 dumps that puny screen, then it too will creep onto the hit list.

Thanks a lot people ;)

Mike, what I find to become an issue on my SGT10.1 is the lack of enough RAM. Things are getting more RAM hungry as Android evolves. Something one has to start to look out for when buying devices.

Youch. What you doing on it that you run out Bevonk? I have not had an issue yet so am curious. Since running the CM10 preview she has been quite a solid little tab.

That said though, the trend for new devices seems to be upping the RAM to 2GB now. Me thinks you going to be upgrading in the near future :)

Galaxy Note 2 as well AFAIK.
You getting the GN10.1?

Own money: I can upgrade in Sept. Not sure ... Note 2, GN10.1, ultrabook ... not sure yet.

Work: Ultrabook is now priority 1. Will be buying a number of 7" Tab 2's soon for field techies (must have 3G else Nexus 7 would have been first choice). Could get one 10" tablet of sorts if I need it.

Work ultrabook and own one needed ... different rules. As manager I set the rules for staff and must set the example. Need own machine to do my own "stuff".

I find my phone to play less and less of a NB role in my life. Don't care so much about getting the latest and greatest phone anymore. 7" tablet rules imo. Small phone just for voice and WhatsApp. Rest happens on 7" tablet. Note not as good a tablet as 7" device.
