Hey peeps,

I am a bit confused and hope someone can help me.

We are on holiday in St Lucia. There are no CellC towers here so roaming on the Vodacom network. My cellphone is Vodacom but use a separate CellC SIM for data on the tablets and notebook.

I was using the hotspot feature on my old Desire HD to give everyone internet access, and while I got good HSDPA/3G speeds, the range of the hotspot was not very good.
So last night I cut the SIM up to make it a Micro SIM and put it in my iPad3 which had much better range. The problem now is that we cannot get more than an Edge connection. Not once had it shown 3G or HSDPA.

Is there some setting or something on the iPad that enables the faster speeds?

EDIT: Running iOS6.

Not sure if I understand you correctly, but if you are using a Cell C sim to roam on Vodacom you will only be able to roam on EDGE at the moment.

Cell C has signed an agreement to roam 3G on Vodacom, but we aren't sure when it will be activated.

There is a thread about it on the Cell C section.

Before I cut the SIM up for the iPad I had it in my Desire HD and was getting H speeds. Speed test reported a 3mbps down and 2mbps up. The article saying that CellC had signed a 3G roaming agreement stated it was with immediate effect and it appeared to be so.

I am aware that Edge is normally the max you get with CellC roaming but that supposed to be different now?

Maybe I was lucky for a bit. Dunno.

EDIT: I gave up with the iPad anyway. While it had good range compared to the Desire HD, it keep dropping connected devices from the to time.
I ended up using my 3G modem hooked up to my notebook and using Connectify to make my notebook a hot spot. Put my second data only Vodacom SIM in it, bolted on 2 GB, and everyone happy now.

Sorry guys. I assumed the settings were the same on the iPad as they are on the iPhone. Apparently there is no such option on the iPad.
