I have set up old box with 2 net cards and installed ipcop but it doesn't want to connect to iburst. I am using PPPoe plugin pap or chap auto dns

set up net card to switch as green
ip 192.168.0.1
Dhcp enabled net range 192.168.0.100-200
domain workgroup ect ect

net card to iburst as red
ip PPPoe option

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you - I am pleased to be of assistance. Place connection on persistent. '' ssh [email protected] (or whatever ip) -p 222 '' and make sure that you can see at least three interfaces there with ''ifconfig'' : local loopback (127.0.0.1), eth0 with local lan address, and eth1 with address 1.1.1.1 broadcast 1.1.1.255.

The only problem that I had with ipcop was that my red interface ethernet card wasn't allowing the supplied cable to connect correctly between my box and teh UTD.

What else... I found that running ''pppd'' or /etc/ppp/ip-up helps to restore connectivity.

If you have no luck - please give us a description of your hardware setup.

I have the three interfaces when typing ifconfig -- with correct address settings.

I set the connection to persisitant via the web interface -I don't know
"ssh [email protected] -p 222" what this is for i would assume its the same via the console.

you said you had a cable problem - did you need to use crossover or straight through?

I found both types worked with windoze.

I cannot connect at all to iburst i viewed the log and it says opening red interface-(i can't remember exact words) then connecting iburst then it will repeat after the 30sec delay i set

'twasn't a problem with the cable - just a honky old NIC. Please, please, please, in memory of my own struggles, check that the lights are on on both ethernet cards.

the ssh thing is, as you guessed, just another way to access the console remotely. Have you typed in a service name? Are you sure that your username and passwords are correct (@wbs.co.za is appended to all usernames, something that I also stuffed up on.)

Yeah that should sort it out btw is the service name just the name of the connection? - Just checking for other problems.

hey, you're welcome. service name is next to concentrator name. not sure if it is mission crititcal or not.

iburst - it probably does not mean anything though... I bet it is used in countries where dsl infrastructure is shared between telcos and isps jointly.

Hokay. you use AFAIK, 'ifconfig pp0 mtu 1350', or whatever your desired setting is. To apply this automatically, add to the appropriate '/etc/ppp/' script, i think it is ip-up or if-up or the like. I can't remember if ipcop has cron, but if it does you could edit the /etc/crontab file and have the mtu applied every hour or so.

From my experience, fiddling with the minimum transmission unit helps little, though.

Here's a question I just can't find an answer to take it as a challenge maybe.

how do you find the optimum mtu in ipcop ie like in windows you would use ping -f -l xxxx www.iburst.co.za and increase the xxxx value until an error message returns saying packet has been truncated.

Or should i just use the prev worked out windoze value of 1400

Also should the mtu be set for the pppOE connection or the eth(x) ( x the one that connects to the modem) or both and what about eth(y) the one that connects to the lan.

I think maybe just the pppOE connection?
