I currently use Payfast as the default payment gateway on my online store.
I also use Snapscan, Peach Payments and Yoco. I like to give my customers options.

I have been selling on Bobshop (the old Bidorbuy) and using their their courier service BobGo for a while. So I thought I would try their payment gateway BobPay on my site as well.

I registered with them and installed the WooCommerce plugin.
Then I noticed some dodgy behaviour.
I want to keep Payfast as my default payment method, so I set BobPay as the secondary one.
Then I noticed that BobPay keeps resetting itself to the default spot!

I thought that it's an issue with my site, but when I rearrange the other payment methods, they all keep their positions, so there HAS to be some code within the Bobpay plugin thats checking to make sure its always the default.

Is anyone else using BobPay alongside other payment plugins? Can you guys confirm if it does the same on your site?

I contacted their support and I can see that they are a bit nervous in the way they are responding...So Im pretty sure they did this on purpose.
They also have a plugin for Shopify, so they are probably doing the same thing over there.
Im still waiting for a fix almost 2 weeks after reporting it to them.

I want to report this to the authorities. Where do you report behaviour like this? This has got to be illegal.

Thats so cheeky!!! Try deleting the code below to see if it sorts the issue, then delete the plugin, as thats pretty devious. Then report them here I would guess [email protected]

Code:
208 // Set bobpay as default payment method
209            if ($is_bobpay_enabled && isset($gateway_order['bobpay'])) {
210                    WC()->session->set('chosen_payment_method', 'bobpay');
211                    return;
212            }

Awesome dude! Thanks for this.
I will definitely take this further. Not gonna let them get away with it

Unethical if you ask me. Also unfait towards you who have been their customer for a long time.

I try to avoid using them because of the foreign companies using to sell stuff here and the only indication they give you is Location: International

Their courier service BobGo is pretty awesome though.
Its basically a "aggregator" of a bunch of local couriers.
You enter the delivery address and it gives you a ton of different delivery options from a bunch of couriers. Then you just select whatever one you want.

But this BobPay behaviour is not cool at all. I definitely wont be using it.

Just got this reply on my ticket this morning.
What absolute bullshit
"Bob Pay was designed to be the first option once integrated" KAK!!!!! Absolute KAK!!!! I can choose whichever payment method I want to be the default. Its not your choice!
______________
Good morning

I hope all is well.

I understand that you would like the flexibility to reorder payment options on your website and make Bob Pay the second option. Bob Pay was designed to be the first option once integrated, however, I completely understand why having the ability to change the order would be important for you.

This enhancement is something our team is actively working on. At this stage, the required updates are still in development and we are unable to provide a specific go-live date.

We appreciate your understanding as we work towards delivering a stable and reliable solution and we will keep you informed of any progress.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions in the meantime.

Kind regards,

What kind of halfwits would choose to implement something like this in the first place and then have the audacity to defend it??

If they want to do something like that then they need to be upfront and state as much that they will only allow use of their payment gateway if it is made the default option.

Got a reply from Wordpress regarding the plugin
_______

Thank you for reporting a guideline violation in this plugin. We're looking into it right now.

We handle most situations like this on a case by case basis, depending on the individual plugin developer's pre-existing relationship with us. Some violations (like tag abuse) are warnings only, others receive multiple warnings before action is taken, and some are closed outright. In each situation, we look at the full context of the plugin, the developer, and their overall adherence to community and plugin guidelines.

Note: Most reports will receive no further communication from us on this matter, simply due to the volume of emails we get a day. We do greatly appreciate the report. It's only with the help of community members like yourself that we are able to maintain the directory as well as we are.

Oh and no, this is not an 'auto-reply' - A real human read your email and is processing it. We do have an auto-complete answer, but we promise there are real humans here, reading things and looking into the issue. We just want you to know that your email didn't hit a black hole.

Thanks for alerting me about this thread.

Let me find out from Andy if this is Hanlon's Razor or something else at play...

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, we have responded to Wordpress and pushed a fix to the plugin (pending approval) removing that code that you are quite right should not have been there in the first place.

Simple solution: Delete plugin until the issue is rectified.
