iPhone’s SA future uncertain

Duh. SA is an afterthought. We dont even have a localised iTS :o
 
Seems like we always behind on the latest and greatest :(
 
My boss got one of them when he was overseas last week.... Nifty little thing I must say.....
 
If the iPhone ever does get released here it'll be with mtn plain and simple. The iPhone doesn't support 3g, but supports EDGE and so far mtn has the best EDGE coverage by far.

iirc O2 didnt have the best EDGE coverage in UK and they still landed it.
 
Really hope they release it here. Would love to get my hands on one.
 
Last time I checked the UK iPhones had 3G...it was only the US iPhones that didn't. So if it is ever released here we will probably get the 3G version.

Lol true, I know "begging" started when the phone was announced!

The thing is Apples marketing strategy of playing hardball might work in some places and not in others.

For one they want part of the 24 month cell contract given to them.
They want exclusivity.
And they want to bully netwroks into getting thing their way.
We (as S Africans) have to upgrade our networks for this phone.

Is that all necessary for a phone that IMO is 2 years out of date?
If they give it to another network in SA then the bigger networks will put up more of a fight, If they refuse SA altogether... then so be it.

We'll fight when they wake up and give a technologically advanced HSDPA phone, so until then.................

I think you'll find the operator is pretty keen on exclusivity too.

If its there then fine, if everyone has it, it wont bother the networks much cause then its standard price wars like with normal manufacturers.

Imagine the networks operation structure changing to suit this phone, repair centres, customer service, network upgrades. Apple will want access to do it their way and bully the network and for all i care they want it at the networks cost....

To much IMO. Keep your phone.
 
If the time the networks take to get new HTC devices (e.g. TyTN II) released is any indication, I think everyone is in for a loooong wait. And this is from a distributor that they are already dealing with (i.e. have an account with). With Apple, its starting from scratch.
