iPhone 12 Rumours & Release Date

Does FNB tap to pay work on the iPhone 12?

Used to use it all the time on my previous Android phones - but it doesn't work with the iPhone. Can't find a definitive answer online.

What's REALLY impressive with the iPhone 12 series is the standby time. I will charge my 12 Pro Max to 80% at around 9pm at night, and when I wake up at 6h30 the next morning it's STILL at 80%!

None of my Androids did that. My OnePlus 6T used to use around 5%+ a night. I think it's due to better app optimisation within iOS.

That’s one of the reasons I moved from Android. I became absolutely obsessed trying to stop the battery drain while the phone is idle. No such issues with the iPhones.

Yeah, I was always chasing something on my Android devices. When it was time for me to replace my phone a few months back,I was going to get the OnePlus 9 Pro. The reviews were disappointing, so took the plunge and went for the 12 Pro Max.

Loved the pure flat screen of the iPhone 12 range (I hate curved screens), and liked the unique industrial stainless steel slab reminiscent of my iPhone 4 days.
I'm really impressed how well this phone works in all departments. Superb cameras (which was a MUST for me), fantastic audio and insanely fast.

I've always owned MacBook Pro's (upgraded the M1 earlier this year). Impressed by how the iPhone and MBP always sync with each other. You can answer calls on your Mac, receive text messages and immediately connect via a hotspot. Your phone's status is always shown on the menu bar, WiFi passwords etc all sync, without you having to do a single thing... and AirDrop is a life saver.

The Apple ecosystem is really in a league of its own.

Repurchasing my apps I already owned on the Google Play store was a bit of a sting... :/ The exact same Apps on iOS are sometimes far more expensive than their Android counterparts

It is absolutely ridiculous how beautifully it all integrates, even though Apple do have their own flaws, their ecosystem is just so robust and ridiculously convenient.

Apple has a lot more software issues than people like to think, it always amazes me at just how tolerant someone can be about a MBP giving tons of issues, but when its a Windows laptop it gets called a piece of junk at the first sign of trouble.
The thing I hate about Apple is that you have to google everything, like the person who mentioned you can receive calls on your MBP from your phone! Really?!? mine doesnt do that??
So off I go to settings to check, hmm cant find a problem, just keep getting failed when I try turn the setting on. So off I have to go to Google to follow the disgruntled people with the same issues about activating facetime(wtf uses facetime??)

So no, Apple does not just work, it takes a whole lot of fiddling and frustration most of the time.

I agree with some of that. I've had more technical issues with my M1 MBA than I can recall having with Windows. It is exceptionally rare (from my experience) for a Windows app to crash, to have issues with peripherals or monitors, or for Windows to bug out. While it's not exactly common in macOS, it's much more frequent than Windows for me.

Overall I prefer Windows as an OS. Especially Windows 11. But I hugely prefer the apps on Mac and I doubt I will ever return to doing work within Windows. Other than PC gaming, 100% Mac for me.

Errr really my experience has been complete opposite to be honest. I've used Windows most of my life, the constant shite I had to struggle through I can write a book about. In the last 3/4 months of using macOS has been mostly pleasant and refreshing.

wtf uses facetime??

Literally most of the American Apple user base?

Worked great for me on my old iPhone XS Max and the MacBook Air I had at my old workplace, if not a little annoying when your Phone, Watch and MacBook ring lol, it’s like you couldn’t hide from the call, I ended up turning that off as even my iPad would ring when I am trying to stay away from my phone for a bit at home.

I especially enjoyed Continuity and still use it a lot between my iPad Pro and iPhone, I wish my current workplace had given us MacBooks to close the loop between my devices as I hate my work Windows laptop.

I guess everyone’s experience is different, I have thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience as it’s been pretty solid for me, if it wasn’t I would have left long ago.

Somethings I would like to see on iPhone though are:
- USB-C (then at least I can just use the same charger for my iPhone and iPad Pro)
- Allowing us to customize the Flashlight and Camera buttons on the Lock Screen (add more icons down there actually)
- Better screen real estate usage on the iPhone Pro Max models e.g. allowing more icons in the bottom app tray in the Homescreen and more widgets on the larger 6.5inch and 6.7inch screen sizes.

They are definitely not perfect but am quite happy coming from Android overall, Apple need to loosen up a bit on somethings .

I have been an Apple user for many years, Im still discovering some of the things the ecosystem can do because they didnt "just work" and required me to first know about them and secondly figure out how to make them work.
The ringing on the iPad thing used to drive me insane, if I didnt answer my phone then I surely wasnt going to answer the iPad!

My main point is that people falsely claim Apple products to be more reliable and better, they most definitely are not.
Apple is just a lot sneakier in the way they handle the crashes etc. My MBP for instance when it bluescreens(this happens often) it just quietly reboots and the bluescreen error message goes away after a minute. So you get back to it and wonder why its restarted and at the login screen?!?
The exact same thing happens with your phone, you probably just dont notice it because its rebooted and appears to be in the same state it was.

Im definitely leaving everything Apple for my next changes, I will come back to them in a few years and see if its an experience that justifies the premium prices then, it sure doesnt justify those prices for me now.

that’s nice…

Recently upgraded to iPhone 12 Pro... no issues, but found that leaving 5G on kind of kills the battery quickly. There isn't any 5G coverage in my area (though Vodacom coverage maps says there is), so I've set it to 4G and battery does much better.

With the iPhone 13 out, anyone considering the 12 since it should* be cheaper now, I'd say go for it. Amazing battery life still on my 12 Pro, almost year later.

What's you battery health like? My XS Max didn't hold up that great. After two years it only managed about 4.5h of screen on time.

Very happy with my 12 Pro so far, it's only 4 months old, battery health still 100%, I don't normally charge it to 100% but the one time I did, I went over 26 hours before charging it again and it still had about 20% left. This was with an onscreen time of over 8 hours, so not heavy usage but I am still impressed.

94% lol but I've been abusing the phone last couple of months to be fair. So 6 hours on that health is a win for me
